Red dot for M1A Socom II

Aimpoint CompM3 or Eotech 551 with 308 bdc?

Also does ACOG have long enough eye relief for a handguard mount?

No, not for any ACOG I have looked through.

If you are looking at red dot optics on the handguard, I would strongly consider an Aimpoint T-1 since it can mount very low and provide better cheek weld on an M1A. Not sure how well the BDC feature on the Eotech will work that far away from your eye.

None of the usual magnified combat optics (e.g. ACOG, etc) will work on the handguard, you'd need a "scout" type scope for that.

i have the EOT with the BDC works great especially when you team it up with 3x magnifier. I use a mountplus mount to shift the eot to the rear. now if you have a extended rail socomII eye relief would be no problem.

I had a compM3 on my socom II. Very nice. Only problem was the back part of the rail close to the receiver is out of spec. There is no way I could fasten the scope on that part of the rail with out it moving. I used a few different high end mounts before I realized it was the rail. Make sure to check yours out. If I move the scope up the rail further, it will mount ok. I heard this happening to others. Not being able to have there scopes hold zero on that vltor rail. SA said to send mine back but I'm not sure the next one would be any different. I'd like to see them pay for the shipping both ways.

I just went through all the research and decided on an Aimpoint M3 myself. They're both good from what I hear. Don't think you can go wrong with either. You can team the Aimpoint up with an x3 as well. Pricey but I may go that route down the road.
