Trijicon MRO ceased to function, found problem

I have an MRO mounted on an HD Rifle that I haven't shot for a couple of years. Just been sitting in the safe, on and ready for any HD needs. I check it once in a while to see if all is ok.

I checked this week and noticed the red dot was gone. Probably battery. I have stock of new CR2032 batteries for this very reason. I took and one out and replaced the new battery into the MRO.

    No Red Dot.

I take another one from a different pack and install it, same thing.

I take the 2 batteries and test them out on another optic, and they work fine.

So, it's the MRO, not the batteries. I dreaded having to send it in for warranty or repair or I'm not even sure if it's under warranty still.

Maybe it's just the contact points or how the battery is mounted. I move it around a bit to try and get contact, but nothing.

I take a little alcohol and a q-tip to clean the contact points, and I discovered this:

One of the battery holder tabs is bent in. I try to fix it in place and it easily breaks off. This thing is so small and light, you can easily blow it off.

I took it off with a pair of tweezers.

I mounted the new battery and boom it works.

I'm surprised this product is so easily rendered inoperable. It's not like I jam batteries into things, I have a relatively light hand.

Anyway, I'm just posting this out there to share my experience with people. Maybe it will help.

Constructive comments always welcome (stupid ones are not, lol).

    Happy Rifle and Owner again:

The MRO has not fared well in reviews. Maybe not Trijicon's best effort.

That will happen every time, the battery will not sit properly when a battery tab is bent. You must be gentle with inserting the battery! Glad its working for you now.

Been lucky with it for several years and many outings, I like it. I've had 2 of it, one on a 556. First time I encountered a problem though.

here's a great review of it.

That was a very good review, pretty solid evidence. Loved the appropriately rough language too. Hilarious.

I have no plans of wearing night vision or going to war any time soon. For the meantime, my MRO will stay on my AR9 for HD use, and luckily my property isn't any larger than 50 yards.

THanks for passing it on, though. The video convinces me for sure that I will be looking elsewhere if I want a serious red dot - I did NOT like that red dot hovering around the 100 yard target when moving the rifle around.
