    AIMPOINT SHOOTERS

Hi I just started shooting with a Aimpoint Comp M4. When I looks through it the red dot does not look perfect, Kind of fussy and Oblong. When I turn down the brightness it does not look so bad. I wear glasses so maybe that is causing the dot to distort. Some say not to focus so much on the dot when shooting but look at your target and the dot will become sharp, what shooting tips do you aimpoint shooters have for me Thanks Ripper

If it is too bright it will "bloom" And not be a perfect circle. Also, depends on your eyes, light conditions, and alot of other factors.

never look at the dot - it's focused in the distance.

      Keep the brightness down.

If the dot is oblong or fuzzy, 99.9% of the time it's your eyes.

Shouldn't matter, anyways; just be consistent in your sight picture.

Sounds like you have a stigmatism. Shooters that have stigmatism’s I recommend them getting a scope like a 1-4x or just a fixed 1x like the Leupold Prismatic.

None are a perfect circle and some are worse than others but it should not effect anything. Good choice on a good optic.

they are when you photograph them.

            No person's eyes are perfect.

My red dot looks like cluster of grapes, not round but it looks perfect for my brother.
              It's my eyes.
'Cuz big holes are easier to see.

100% true. It's your eyes. I shoot a comp M4S. I have astigmatism and am nearsighted. Even with my glasses, I get a bit of a football. As long as I keep the reticle power down to control the blooming, it helps. Even with the football, It is still accurate. Too bad there isn't a diopter adjustment on the Aimpoints like there is on scopes.

i have a stigmatism, but not bad to the point where i need glasses.

the dot did look a little off to me, but when i squint its fine.

by the way, the aberration of the eye is called astigmatism.

Stigmatism is a different concept (though connected).

That's one thing I don't like about these red-dots. The dot is 2moa (big) sized. Something like 1moa would be much better, especially at farther distances

I also have astigmatism and Aimpoint dots can look blobby or comet-like to my eyes (T-1 is the worst, and the CompM2 better). At 1x they're not bad, w/ the 3X magnifier it really is noticeable. As others noted, turning the brightness down helps but doesn't eliminate the problem. I've found Eotechs are much crisper for me. I've heard others who have the opposite problem, so best if you can try them first to see how they work with your eyes.

As Mike/CSGunworks said, 1-4x scopes seem to work great with my astigmatism. In fact, I bought my Meopta from him!

I recently just purchase a T1 and was really surprised that the red dot didnt look like a dot..

I have an eotech and also a Millet DMS-1 and the red dot both look good.

You guys need to stop looking at the dot. You need to focus your eyes on the target, both eyes open. Then bring up the rifle so the dot is over your target, but keep your eyes focused on the target.

Red dot sights are not for shooting tiny groups, they're for CQB and making center mass hits on man-sized targets at distance. Even a 4MOA dot would cover only 12" at 300 yards. That's enough precision to make center mass hits at that distance.
