There are quite a few options out there. You'd probably get more detailed recommendations if you list your budget range. You could go as low as less than $2k to north of $5K depending on generation and type.

The current Omni VIII mil specs tubes are @ average to what a lot of com spec are being released. There are 3 main tube manufacturers you should stick with Photonisis, L3, and Elbit. Just note there are different tiers of tubes and like the other poster noted it's best to come up with a realistic budget you want to spend and what AO you'll most likey encounter. For urban areas Photonisis will be the company I'd look at. For extremely dark areas with little ambient light and you need every ounce of advantage to see L3 filmless WP tubes is what you seek. If you want something that's very close to filmless but you want to save a couple of grand L3 or Elbit thin filmed is your ticket. You can save more money on blem or fallout tubes from any of the 3 companies mentioned and save several hundreds dollars with some imperfections, or spec that didn't make the minimum spec requirements.

save and get binos, haven't come across someone who doesn't regret getting a mono or ended up upgrading.

My kid prefers a mono vs binos and I wouldn't want to be without one even though I have BNVDs. A 14 is lighter weight, low profile, packable, thousands less vs a bino, long 50hr battery life of of a common AA battery that can be found any where in the world as well as pathway lighting on front yards everywhere. A pathway solar light is a battery/charger all in one for the next Zombie Apocalypse. So no regrets buying a PVS14 on my end.

                NVD BNVD or L3 BNVDs?
Either way they're great articulating binos with Individual auto off when raised.

Also what brand tubes, color, and specs did you get?

I got NVD BNVD Elbit TF HP+ GP with a FOM of @ 2350 and EBI of .7/.8 IIRC

The biggest difference between Gen3 and Photonis Gen2+ is going to be in extremely dark area where no moon, star, or any light pollution exists. Gen3 tubes are better in low lighting vs Photonis Gen2 being better in urban lighting. For the money Gen2+ Photonis tube are great, but for me the Photonis have too much of a bluish hue that gives me a headache after a short duration of use. RNVGs are probably the gest fixed goggle (very durable)and can usually be found for a deal since most people are moving towards articulating binos. Congrats on your purchase just be sure to use them as much as possible. If you have any questions or need advice drop me a pmmpr email

They’re shipping next week, when they get in I’ll let you know the specs. Yeah I went with these based on wanting to not break the bank and I know several guys who bought the same ones and are happy with them. I’ve been borrowing green phosphorus and they haven’t bothered me, I know others who it really bothers after a couple hours so think I’ll be good with these. Got my helmet, some sordins and a Wilcox mount waiting for them. Pretty excited.

Sounds like you have a solid setup. Echo + RNVG are definitely on my short list.

The Photonis Echo spec is nice, pretty clear too. Robert at JRH is a class act, helped me out on my purchase. I just wish we had classes her like they do back East, night shoots would be awesome.

What are some commercial options available for nvgs?

Like commercial or mil spec I want to get an idea.

Money is an issue but curious to see what’s out there.
Elbit thin film White Phosphorous are both Commercial and Milspec, in many cases. They have some great specs, when you order from the right places.

PVS-14's, a bump helmet, and something like a dbal or CQBL are a typical entry into the game!

Binos are good if you can afford it, sure, but there's nothing wrong with PVS-14's.

I got a good deal on a DBAL D2 here. I used it a couple weeks ago in a night vison class and was really happy with it. it's bulky but not much weight difference to an A3. The Illumination on it is impressive, a couple guys with MAWL's were like what is that when we started shooting. The MAWL is bad *** especially with the size but for the money this things great.
