The Aimpoint 3XC is an awesome extremely clear magnifier, low priced and has a rubber armor coating. As far as mounts the Aimpoint flip to the side QD mount is a great option as well as the Larue QD mount. The Aimpoint mount disconnects/mounts extremely fast, but the flip to the side is held by tension. The Larue is locked in deploy or flipped and the QD is a bit slower.
The 3XC as other magnifiers will work with any RDS even though the centers of the glass isn't perfectly aligned height wise. If clarity and durability is at the top of must have attributes the 3XC is the way to go.Can DI AR's run dirty?

I run a G33 magnifier with a T2 on a Larue LT-660 1/3 cowitness mount.
It works perfectly.Comment

I have a g33 and g45 that I run behind a t2 and eotechs I actually prefer the aimpoint with the eotech magnifier. Lighter package too, people said the h1/t1 looked like a like behind the magnifiers but I never saw it with those either.Comment

Share some pics of these beauties. Half the fun on an online gun forum is drooling over the guns? I have found Flickr is a great place to host pics if you do not already have one. They make it easy to share on a board like this. They have a tool that generates the code for you.
Not sure "long range" is the best way to describe a red dot and 3x magnifier setup. But that wouldn't apply to LPVO setup either. I get wanting a red dot on your CQBR. I prefer that setup as well. I also understand why adding magnification is appealing for when you'll be in an open field and need to be able to make shots out to and beyond even just a hundred yards. Bear in mind, you need to be able to identify whether that target is actually a bad guy before you shoot. So what you and the rifle are capable of hitting is not the issue. What you are capable of identifying is. Of course, if it is shooting at you...you're gonna shoot at it right back.
I did the magnifier thing for a bit. Wasn't all that impressed. Then again my magnifier was crap. Heavy and not very clear. Not a major brand name. I am currently running an LPVO on one of my ARs. Main complaint is the weight. That and that there is no such thing as a true 1x LPVO. Leupold tells the truth and calls it 1.5x. Others just flat out lie. Maybe they are closer to 1x. Who knows? But my scope does feel like a tank. Thankfully the rest of the rifle is super light. With a LPVO you'll end up having to add a micro red dot as a backup and likely end up running it most of the time. So it's a quirky conundrum. I don't recommend trying to run your T2 as backup to an LPVO. Adds too much weight. The Trijicon RMR and similar sights work better in that capacity. If only for that reason.
In your case you already own the T2. So not wanting that hefty investment to go to waste is a good idea. Personally, I would leave it where it is. I agree the larger window of the EoTech is nice. I run the EXPS on one of my ARs. But the weight savings of the T2 and T1 sights are phenomenal. So I run those on my fancier ARs. I just like them better.
If I were to advise somebody looking to buy a sight new, I'd say the performance of the EoTech EXPS is so good that it's probably not worth the money to go to an Aimpoint T2. You get a lot of bang for you buck with the EoTech EXPS. The weight savings is not so significant it's worth the added expense. Plus, like you said. The larger window is nice.
That said, the Holosun Micro red dots and getting some high praise from people with some serious combat cred. They say they are more than good enough to trust your life to them. Makes me wonder if we are all throwing our money away on these pricey red dots. I'm running Leupold Scopes, Aimpoint and EoTech red dots on my rifles, and Trijicon RMRs on my handguns. Lots of them. If Holosuns are as good as some say...that's a lot of money I did not need to spend.
Interesting comparison..,my take away was they both work for my needs. But there are some advantages to each worth considering.
