Where I did wrong?

Hello folks,

As the first time to use optics, I ordered one Holosun HE503CU-GR and HM3X. However the two are using different Co-Witness and I like to use Absolute Co-Witness, so I ordered an absolute Co-Witness QD from amazon (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1). However, after I put them together, it looks like they are still not on the same height, magnifier is lower than Red dot (see picture below).

My questions:
1. If both Red dot and magnifier declare having absolute co-witness, should the height difference showed in the picture in the picture be normal?
2. Did I put them at the right location on the rail (should they move forward and backward)? Are they too close each other?

Something is off. One of your mounts is not matching either from manufacture or one being different from the other. A remedy kinda is you stick them as close as possible

Thank you for the information. I am checking with manufacture now to see if any of them answers. The two seem to be in the closest position considering to leave spaces for the rubber covers for them.

What position is your magnifier in? 3x? Or 1x at the moment? Both are absolute co witness mounts?

Yes, 3x. Yes, I am trying to get absolute co-witness.

The HM3X comes default as absolute co-witness and you have to add a Holosun spacer to make it 1/3 co.

The 503 you have seems to ship with a 1/3 co mount.

The answer to your question, is that you went wrong by ordering a mount of Amazon.

Either find a mount for the 503 that will actually be co-witness or put back the Holosun mount and get the spacer for the magnifier to live with 1/3 co.

Your magnifier will work perfectly the way it is since it doesn't need to exactly the same height as your RDS.

Yes, I can still see dot with such un-aligned installation. Any drawback if using this way?

Unless youre seeing the body of the red dot while magnified youre not losing anything. If you are, youre losing sight picture

Ordering these types of parts form Amazon is similar to Forest Gump's box of chocolates "You never know what you are going to get". Too many suspect vendors and no oversight/control on false reviews, etc.

Shoot as is, or bump it up to 1/3 co-witness with the Holosun parts. I prefer the 1/3 co as the sight picture is less cluttered and you can always move your head down a bit to get the dot to line up to the iron sights.

Thanks for the information, I will try to use as it is now to see how good/bad it would be. If not good, I will go to 1/3 option.

One reason I want to try the absolute co-witness is to use red dot to zero my iron sight, or vise verse, to have the comparison. Just want to see which one can give me the better result.

With 1/3 co red dot you will notice that if you move your eye down a bit the sights and red dot still line up. One of the great things about red dots and no parallax issues.

Wow, does that mean even with 1/3 co witness, I am still be able to use iron sights (through Red Dot glass I guess)? If that is the case, no need to try so hard to get the absolute co witness then.

Correct, that is why 1/3 is a good option. Less cluttered optic view and you can still align with irons if needed.
