ok after way more time spent on this than I should have spent- I ordered the Vortex Strike Eagle 4-24x50 on closeout from eurooptics - at the recommendation of Surferchris1. Seems like a good all around value. Maybe someday I'll actually figure out what all the marks on the reticle mean and be able to use them properly!
Thanks for all the advice- I learned a lot about scopes in a very short amount of time.
You made a good choice.
The worst thing you can do with a 22 rimfire is put a 22 rimfire scope on it as was posted earlier.
I would have chimed in earlier and said just that but didn't want all the hate associated with that suggestion.Last edited by LynnJr; 06-22-2022, 2:33 AM.Lynn Dragoman, Jr.

That might be going a bit far IMO. The common rimfire scopes are simple, lower priced, and work well for most of the typical rimfire rifle use by most people. As I've learned recently (here on CG!) they do get outclassed quick by other scopes once you get out of that envelop of use.
The Nikon 3-9x40 rimfire scope I've been using on two different Ruger 10/22 (and the cheap gun show Bushnell I had before that) have served me well. I learned a lot from them and other optics I've used and I'm ready to try other stuff now.
Thanks for the great discussion

I bought a Ruger Precision Rifle rimfire (thanks Mike) .
It's got an Athlon Argos 6-30 scope on it. It's great.
But I just recently found out that Ruger Precision Rifle rimfires have a 30moa scope rail. It's to aid in shooting out to 300 to 400 yards where a .22 would have feet of bullet drop.
The trade off is some scopes (not mine) don't have enough adjustment in them to sight in a 50 yards. Ruger with give you a parallel 0 moa rail of you call them.Comment

I guess they know what they are doing, me as a CA peasant I ain't know and I ain't vote for him. BTW, all of my scope mounts came with the scope I purchased.Comment

Aadmount is overkill for the 22 LR, IMHO. If you really have to have a vice holding your scope, check out Aadland. They are abour 33% cheaper, and just as tough.https://www.opticsplanet.com/spuhr-3...ope-mount.html

I have a set of these, and DANG! They are rock solid. When they say "severe duty," you aren't kidding.
