    Vortex Strike Eagle

Hello all I am leaning towards this LPVO and I like the vortex brand due to the lifetime warranty. Im putting this on my LR308 build, my concern is that alot of people are selling it on this site so my question should i skip this and look into more of the swampfox arrowhead? This is just for target practice/plinking. Just looking for opinions. Budget between $300-$500

For that budget I'd opt for a Vortex Viper over a Strike Eagle. You'll have better glass quality that will better utilize your 308. I have no experience with Swampfox.

Look through youtube channel SuperSetCA. He's reviewed a lot of LVPO's and low powered optics.

I have a 1-6 Strike Eagle. I paid closer to $200. It's just ok. I don't know that there's anything better in the same price range though. I suspect that most $200-$300 LVPOs are kinda disappointing. It's sitting on a shelf right now but I might put it on a Ruger 10/22.

On 1 power, there is just enough of a weird fish-eyeish distortion that it isn't great for fast two eyes open shooting like a red dot. Not that this is unique to the Strike Eagle. Every LPVO I've ever seen under about $600-$700 does this. I haven't used the Swampfox but I'd be surprised if it was significantly better. If you shoot with only one eye open this might not bother you.

Clarity at 6 power is pretty good. Reticle illumination is pretty good. Color and brightness is pretty good. No problems holding zero. I don't love the reticle, but it's not that I dislike this specific one, I generally don't like bullet drop reticles.

Vortex does have a good warranty. I've used it a couple times. But I think most decent optics brands have pretty good warranties these days.

i have a swampfox 1-10x and i think it is very good for the price.
i took a chance after seeing Ilya's review. his bottom line is nothing under $800+ is better. they have a mil reticle now.

brightness and 1x is better than the burris rt-6 that i put on my 10/22.

Good advice. Although the budget mentioned here realistically limits your options to the China glass.

I have a Swampfox Arrowhead 1-10 on my big bore AR. It does the job well. No complaint from me. They also do a First Responder/Mil discount with no limits if you have that option available.

I would take a look at the new Sig Sauer Tango MSR which is on sale for $250 at Sportsmans. It also comes with a mount. I bought one on Black Friday and definitely happy with the purchase.

IMHO if a LPVO doesn't have a true "Day Light Bright and I'm talking Aimpoint users say Damn that's bright" dot you're taking away half of its usefulness. Also LPVO are not meant for precision so capped turrets and hold overs only enhance the capability of a LPVO. You should also be sure it's a close to a true 1X with a good eye box. IMHO the only options are the Vortex Gen II 1-6, Steiner PXi4, or a Burris RT6 1-6

Vortex offers a lifetime warranty, but from what I hear about the Strike Eagle don't be surprised if you have to use it...

If you're stuck in the $300 range of your budget, you should look at the Burris RT6, as it's probably the best overall option - but still pretty comparable to the Primary Arms and Strike Eagles LPVOs. All fine scopes, but not necessarily the most durable options for a hard recoiling .308 semiauto...

I feel that you start to see significant improvements in overall quality (especially glass) if you step up to the $500+ range. Scopes like the Viper PST 2, Steiner P4Xi, Delta Stryker HD, and Trijicon Accupoint TR24 will give you significantly better performance & longevity for just a bit more money. If you can find any of the above optics used around $500, you'll be much happier.

Still, for a .308, I feel like a LPVO is pretty limiting. I'd much rather have a 2~10x or 3~15x optic. Take a look at the Athlon Helos BTR 2-12x since you only give up 1x on the low end, but gain 12x on the top end. MK Machining just announced a coupon code for 15% off scopes, making it an even better deal: SCOPEMAS
I've been really impressed with the Ares BTR 2.5-15x and think the Helos should be a significant step above the Strike Eagle you're considering and will suit the capability of your .308 much more effectively.
