    AR-15 LPVO scope mount suggestions...

Picking up a new AR-15 next week, a Springfield Armory Saint Victor. Will be putting a Primary Arms 1-6x24 SLx LPVO on it, but having some trouble deciding on a scope mount.

I'm torn between which scope mount to get. Was initially leaning toward the Aero Precision Ultralight mounts as they are very light and very affordable, but have read reports that they may not be that durable, with the way the rings secure the scope being the weak point and have cracked. But after further reading it may be due to people over-torquing the rings and simply not following the directions and torque specs.

Also considering the Warne Gen 2 Skeletonized MSR mount. I have Warne rings holing a Leupold scope on my Model 70, and have no complaints.

The one thing I do like about the Aero Precision mount is the SPR version, which allows for greater forward placement of the scope, which may be something I should factor in given this is going onto a CA compliant featureless rifle that has a fixed Magpul stock on it, so a fairly short LOP. The Aero Precision SPR mount would give me a little more eye relief, which I think I'd appreciate with this set up, but in all honesty I very little experience with AR-15's.

I guess my question is would I be making a big mistake going with the Aero Precision Ultralight SPR mount, or should I be looking elsewhere? This will be on a rifle I plan to use at the range and in classes. Nothing heavy-duty.

I have the AP ultralight. Eye relief is good, I have a fixed Luth AR skelleton stock. I have no problems with it. Mounting was a tad tricky, the way the rings hook up I found it tends to slightly twist the scope as you torque it down. First time I ended up with an obviously canted reticle (a big problem for the ACSS). I just loosened and gave it an adjustment and re-tightened. Because of this, I didn't use any threadlocker, and a couple screws worked very loose during a range zero. So locker totally needed. And yes, use a torque driver.

Looks like you want a cantilever mount. I'm an Aero dealer and like their products but I'm not a fan of their scope mounts nor any that have center split rings. In this price range, the Warne mount and Burris REPR are good choices. I'd also take a look at the Leupold Mark AR IMS.

From personal experience, you have to be careful with Aero Precision Ultralight cantilever mount to avoid canting your LPVO. The way it is designed, the rings will twist the scope tube slightly as you tighten the screws.

If you don't mind spending over $150, get an ADM RECON scope mount.

Thanks for this, and everyone else for their replies and suggestions.

'm still torn on which mount to buy. Seems like a lot of people have had no issues with their Aero mount ts, but with that said they do seem to have more complaints than many others.

I came across this score mount from Creedmor. Looks promising. They don list the weight, but can't imagine it being anything outrageous.

I've also read about placing a drop of lubricant or grease to the rings to prevent the scope from rotating when torquing them.

If you like Warne mounts, but want to save a bit of money, look at the Midway AR-Stoner Mounts:

I have one on my SWFA 3-15x scope, and it works great. Word on the street is that it comes from the same factory that makes the Warne X-Skel mounts (which I also have, and also work great). It just doesn't have the nice finish and weight-saving cutouts. But it's $70 instead of $120, which helps those of us that need to be a little budget conscious.

I would advise caution with the Aero Precision mounts. I had one that gave me endless trouble with wandering zero on one of my ARs. It was shooting 5-10 MOA groups and caused endless frustration. I wasted more ammo & range time than I care to admit trying to troubleshoot the issue. As soon as I switched to a Warne mount, it immediately solved the problem and turned it into a 1 MOA gun with quality ammo. Never dealing with Aero mounts again.

Warne, LaRue, ADM, and AR-Stoner all work well for me!

I have an aero on an ar15 and a warne on an ar10. No problem with either. The aero is ridiculously light weight. I considered the pepr but it's a bit heavy. I used a wheeler fast wrench for install and that made torquing it down easy

Good to know, and thank you. I have a Wheeler Fat Wrench on order that should be here in a day or two that I'll use for the install.

I've heard about the wandering zero thing and haven't run into it myself, even after 2 tours with the Aero and my Vortex Razor (the earlier heavier one).
Warne makes good stuff too. I think their mount is the lightest QD.

LaRue Tactical, might not be the lightest but its high quality, holds zero when getting banged around in the field/match or bouncing around in a vehicle. You can take it off and remount it and it holds the same zero.

I could replace my LaRue mounts with newer lighter one's but why would I when they have been trouble free.

IMHO a return to zero QD mount is a handy option to have. Bobro, Larue/CAN mounts are some of the best and run 125-225 used/new. For a hexinut type mount that have a reliable return to zero are the Giselle, NightFoce, Badger, Unity, Warne mounts. If you shoot NTC nose to charging handle you'll need a SPR/cantilever/extended mount. What ever mount you choose "DO NOT" buy a raised mount over @ 1.50 like all the SOCOM fanbois. While a 1.93/2.05 mount heads up shooting is great for dynamic/NODs shooting it's sucks huevos for prone. Also avoid built in cant mounts unless you're shooting past 1K yards something you ain't gonna be doing with an AR15 anyway.
