I know it's an old design, but I found a nice deal on one. What's the good, bad and ugly? I plan to mount it on a 9mm.

Vortex Venom on a pistol?

I have multiple and they all work. Even on my g20 10 mm i havent had an issue. They are a quality optic.I support peace through superior firepower.

Just don't torture test or drop it, you'll shatter the window. They do have a lifetime warranty, so for a range/comp gun they're GTG, but I'd look elsewhere for a carry/duty rig.Can DI AR's run dirty?

Seen a few in classes/shoots dropped and the window cracks due to the thin aluminium frame design of the optic. An RMR the ears are meant to take the load and transfer the blow to the sides vs the top of the glass. Doctors are steel framed, Holosun has a thicker aluminum window frame or some models made from titanium. Can DI AR's run dirty?

I would have to agree with this... Looks like a very delicate piece, especially when banged against a wall, dropped to the floor, etc.
But it works extremely good... In spite of the small window when compared to, say, an SRO - acquisition is quick. Transition is good. Dot size (3MOA) was more than sufficient for the run & gun of action pistol competition.
If the Vortex/Docter footprint were more standard on Glock aftermarket slides - I would have gone with them rather than Holosun/SRO for my match pistols. I would say best ROI in terms of cost.
That said, I have it on my 13-yr old boy's G17 and my 1911 Springfield MCO for around 2~3-years now.
Albeit my only concern is that the dot is NOT as sharp as my other optics. A slight annoyance, yes - but not a deal breaker.
Oh, yes, battery is the smaller CR1632.

I run one as a canted backup on my AR, so far no issues and it has a good sight picture.Best Collateral Pawn in SSF, we are doing PPTs by appointment. Call 650 589 4433, ask for Rowland or RonComment
