Laser light combo question

I have an Olight that I intend to attach to my maverick 88. For those familiar with this shotgun you'll know that it essentially has no sights. Instead of installing a red dot or iron sights I want to install a laser to run side by side on a picatinny rail and use that as my sight alignment. My light is 600 lumens. Is there a laser I can run with this light that will still be visible when I have the light on?

Running a green laser will definitely be more visible, but I'd be concerned with the durability or the laser holding recoil on a 12g. A red dot may be a cheaper/better option. If you're set on a laser look at a quality laser that will hold up to the shock of the recoil such as the Steiner OTAL

Your shotgun should have a sight.... its the most common sight on shotguns- a simple bead sight


If missing. replace it...

Your cheek weld is the rear sight... your cheek weld must be consistent

If you have not yet fired a slug or 00 Buck round with a poor cheek weld... it hurts...


Your face is in the same spot each time with cheek weld
bead dot is on the front of the barrel...


easy peasy - you should be able to get hits on a standard IPSIC target with slugs at 100 yards with a bead sight...

cheap lasers use fragile internals... they wont hold up to recoil... I can't find lasers during the day... a green laser is fun at night...


You might go to the training section and read reviews of the shotgun classes... lots of tips on gear that is good and bad....

I suppose a good set of iron sights might be cheaper in the long run. I have no problem with iron sights on pistols and rifles. Not a fan of the bead sight on his shotgun. Thanks for the info

Take a look at XS Big dot shotgun front sight. They even have a tritium version. Aiming with a bead while looking down the ribbed receiver works well out to 100 yards with slugs. The best thing is to pattern your shotgun at the range and see what it does with slugs at different ranges. For shot usually you get a 1" circular spread for every foot. Taking a good class or find a private instructor is very cost effective vs sending lead down range and not knowing the effect of what happens with your load if you miss your target. A good instructor can give you a better understanding on how affective a shotgun can be.
