The older we/our eyes get. The more that green is easier for us to see. Another astigmatism trick is to use an ARD. The honeycomb really helps to trick our eyes. If you still want red, just use at lower setting. Good luck!

It's personal preference. Only you can decide.
I personally prefer red because I see it better and faster. You might see green better."Show me a young conservative and I'll show you a man without a heart. Show me an old liberal and I'll show you a man without a brain." - Sir Winston Churchill

I think Holosun just copied and pasted the specs for the red reticle to the green version. I contacted them directly a year ago when I was trying to decide which color reticle to go with on a 510C. They informed me that I should go with red if maximum battery life was important to me. They did however tell me that since green is more visible to most people, you can run it at a lower setting which will increase battery life.On Holosun's website they state the same 50,000 hour battery life for both green & red units with setting 6 (not sure if that is the same for both). Not sure if I'm missing anything.
I will mostly use it for range use, not planning any active duty scenarios with it. It might be used for HD/SD. I figure worst comes to worst I can pop it off and just use the iron sights.
What is wrong with Holosun, they seem to be getting good reviews (talking about the higher end 510 units)?
When I was shopping for an MRO, I asked Trijicon why their green reticle has 80% less battery life than their red reticle. Their answer was simple: the green LED emitters that they purchase have less battery life compared to the red ones. I assume this is probably true for all optics companies.Last edited by teflondog; 12-15-2020, 9:18 AM.Originally posted by G. Good to know. I figured the green LEDs consume more energy, may just have to do a battery swap every year. I figure that should be fine, as it won't be used constantly and sit in the safe most of the time.I think Holosun just copied and pasted the specs for the red reticle to the green version. With Holosun's auto turn off and Shake Awake technology, battery life shouldn't be an issue for you since the rifle will remain motionless most of the time.Originally posted by G. Well there are earthquakes.......
But yeah I figured as much. At least with 1000+ hours , swapping batteries once a year should be good. Even with lower battery numbers once a year should be good.Comment

Holosun makes optics for a lot of other manufacturers, including Sig (and even though they claim not, even the high end Sig's look strikingly similar to their comparable Holosun).
There's nothing wrong with Holosun. There's chinesium, and then there's high grade chinesium. For the money, Holosun's high grade chinesium is extremely tough to beat.Last edited by NorCalRefuge; 12-17-2020, 10:45 PM.Comment

I'm wondering if I'm colorblind then because I returned my eotec 511 as it was hard to see and I just got a Holosun 510 that I can't barely see the reticle but I can clearly see the red led that's painting it.
I don't think I'm colorblind, there are plenty of red things I see just fine as red.Comment

Even if you are not having eye issues or an astigmatism, green is better in the long run. Both will work for most, but older eyes appreciate green more.Comment

Been using my 510 green, it works really well for me. I added the 3x magnifier and it does help quite a bit for more precise shooting 50yds+
Haven’t seen much benefit of the green over the red dot on my 10/22. That said I do notice with brighter light I don’t have to crank the green as high as the red. May be the higher quality of the Holosun over the cheap AT3 on the 10/22. Will need to do more testing.Comment

When shooting red stuff use the green. When shooting green stuff use the red.
Beyond personal physical maladies it doesn't matter as long as you can put it on the target.
I use both colors interchangeably and the older I get the suckier my eyes are.Comment

I have astigmatism and prefer red.
