    Budget sights?

Working on a budget rifle to be left at a remote location. Let's assume it will be rarely fired. Not sure if I want to put on an optic yet but it is an option so I'm looking for flip up sights.

Did a search but didn't find any info to help out.

What is the calguns opinions on the following? Narrowed them down based on Amazon and YouTube reviews. On my go to rilfe (that was lost in a boating accident) I'm running Magpul Pro's but just can't justify the cost for a budget build.

    Tacticon Armament buis

    UTG low profile

cheapest i would go is magpul mbus (the polymer ones). PSA usually has deals on these but theyre currently out of stock. I found some online for around $85. otherwise you can find a used set on tacswap or maybe even here in the marketplace.

I had one of these rear sights on my budget build, looks and operates like the Magpul MBUS.

I second the Magpul MBUS. PSA used to have them for $59/pair. But once Covid started, those sold out quickly.

If things normalize, I'd expect $59 again. But who knows when normal will return.

My only gripe with the MBUS is changing between the reticles.

I put Gogoku flip ups on my KelTec KSG. $27 on Amazon (they are cheap and Chinese, but not crap)
They mount well, hold zero, and co-witness with my red dot.

I've used the Tacticon sights. They are surprisingly good, hold zero after a beating. I chose them as backups to an optic because I like the low profile (they co-witnessed). I later took the optic off to use on a different gun and have been running the Tacticon as primary since I like them so much.

If you NEED a rifle THERE, why would you want a cheap piece of chit to defend yourself?

Either take a GOOD rifle with you, if you're afraid to leave it... or install a way to lock it up if you're worried about it being stolen... but DON'T bet your life on "low-bid!"

I guess I should've been a little more clear. I try to anticipate the queations and sometimes get it all wrong.

The intent in not a bugout stash or a post apocalyptic survival scenario. More along rhe lines of a hunting cabin or remote piece of family ranch property.

If this rifle sees use it'll most likely be shooting skunks and the occasional coyote, and at worst a possible backup for two leggers that are up to no good...something I can put in a buddy's hands to watch my back if that worst case plays out (or give me some extra firepower if I'm only there with a handgun).

I'm leaning heavily toward the Tacticon...veteran owned and lifetime warranty speaks to me

Here is a rear for $40. Now you gotta find a front one. And regarding switching between apertures, i leave mine with the big one flipped open all the time. Of i need to take a precision shot then I flip to the small one.

A factor id like to ask or put in, are you leaving in a locker? Or is this a bury it gun? Theres rust and other issues that could happen to prolong storage of firearms. If left open exposed in a locker or some sort, you could get away with polymer like magpul buis. If its a bury gun, you could vac seal it and put whatever on. Id vac seal or at least garbage bag it after coating it in grease or something to protect it first. A buis is only effective on a working firearm!

I have a set of the newer utg sights. For what I paid for them, they are solid, well built, and hold a zero.

If you just want cheap, how about $65 for a crimson trace red dot from midway USA? Or you can step up to $80 bushnell trs25
