Best red dots for Kel-Tec SU16ca

I want to get a red dot for my Kel-Tec SU16a, preferable for under $150.00. I see a lot of product reviews out there, but a lot are more for AR-15 owners, so if you have the Kel-Tec, it would be great to have your views on good choice of red dots for it!

IMHO for 150.00 your best option is a Holosun or a Primary Arms micro

That's one of the ones I've been looking at. People seem to like it and the price is right.

One issue is the iron sights on this gun are very low, so I think it's going to be hard to co-witness... any thoughts on this?

You'll want a low mount red dot, and you generally won't be able to co-witness. Make sure whatever you get comes with a low mount, not an AR15 co-witness mount.

To use backup iron sights, it might be better to go for a QD mount for whatever you get.

I've been mounting red dots on my early SU16, and there have been a few problems:

- My receiver rail isn't Picatinny spec. I don't know if they fixed that on later SU16s, but the slot width is too narrow (4.5mm vs 5.0mm on the Picatinny rail), and the spacing is wrong. ETA: They did fix the rail specs on later models, starting with the Charlie and CA models, and including later production A and B models. You'd have to measure yours to know for sure, unless it's a recent build.

- Many Picatinny mounts won't fit without opening up the slot on my SU16. This won't be an issue on newer models.

- Any mounts that use 2 slots for either recoil lugs or mounting lugs won't fit due to spacing, unless you're lucky. This won't be an issue on newer models.

My ARMS #5 riser fits on the old spec SU16 rail, and has a see-through tunnel that works with the SU16 sights, but it mounts the optic up to AR15 heights and you lose the cheek weld.

I have 2 QD low mounts for the Romeo 5/Aimpoint T1 (Aimpoint QD low mount and ARMS 31 low mount), and neither of them fits my receiver rail due to the slot width problem.

Next step is to open up a rail slot so one of these works, but for now, I've mounted an old Bushnell Holosight on it, with no QD mount. Its recoil lug is the mounting screw with a round shank, not squared, so it fits and holds tight. It's a good inexpensive alternative to an Eotech, but isn't so much battle-hardened.

I’ve been wondering about this same topic for five years. My su is still sporting irons (Tech Sights).

I had a Primary Arms micro for a time but went to Tech Sights and a Blitzkrieg front post.

I have a TRS 25 I'd part with. Wasn't on the gun long. I prefer a reflex red dot.
