How do I operate an old Redfield 6-18x scope?

    Hey guys,

I think I figured it out but just to make sure. I have an old Redfield on my Enfield. Wow just realized that rhymes almost.. For the rear reticle focus it looks like I loosen the outside then I can adjust the focus then need to tighten down the outer ring. Same with the objective end right. I can looses the outside ring then can turn the inside ring and lock it down with the outside ring. Can anyone tell me if these old scopes focus much? I don't see that much difference when I go from 0 yards out to infinity. I just barely see it focus but maybe it's parallaxing just fine. I'll have to test for parallax

Dead killed? It should make a difference when you actually try to look at objects at distance outdoors... you might not be able to focus the reticle when the AO is set incorrectly. It might not make much difference in the image quality excluding the reticle. If it is really forgiving, great.

Look at a clear blue sky with your eyes closed, open your eye while paying close attention to the center of the reticle, if it's not clear adjust it slightly, close your eyes and try again. Your eyes can make up for an out of focus picture which is why you do not want to adjust your AO while looking at the reticle. Closing and opening your eye will get you the truest clear focus possible. Remember the reticle is what you are trying to focus on and not the target. Parallax is usually set @ 100 yards for most manufacturers, but can eaisly easily be verified at different distance to be certain.

Thanks Munny$hot, this redfield seems to have a parallax adjustment since it has the yardage markings at the front. I just noticed it barely changes in terms of focus on target vs my other newish scopes that you can tell right away when you adjust their parallax. I will test for actual parallax soon since I've only have adjusted them till the picture was crisp clear.
