68MOA Ring

Does anyone find 68MOA ring helpful? It's kind of distracting to me, not helping.
Thoughts?

Assuming you're talking about an Eotech's reticle, consider that the center dot is just 1 MOA. At half the size of a similar Aimpoint's dot, it would be a little hard to pick up in many situations if floating out there all by itself.

FWIW, I do have a friend who hates his Eotech's for having that ring. I told him he should have gotten an Aimpoint.

To add to what I said above, if you're talking about, say, a Holosun with its 2-MOA center dot with the Eotech-like ring around it then I would agree, the ring is useless and just gets in the way.

I don't think it matters what anyone else thinks of the ring. It's your preference, if you don't like it then what internet strangers think of it is irrelevant.

Realized I should explain it.

So 65 Moa at 100 yards is well a lot. It’s 65” right? That’s not what it’s for.

At 50 yards it’s 32”... about the width of a large torso man.

At 25 yards it def center mass.

No one care about the 65 ring at 100. You use the 1 Moa dot for that.

No one cares about the 1 Moa dot at 25 yards. You use the 65... or rather the circle that covers center mass of any human being at that distance.

Having said that, a super bright 2 Moa dot will probably be just fine.

Thank you all for your feedback. I tried EOTech and Holosun 65 MOA red dots, but still couldn't figure out the benefits of using it. It's really obstructing my view and impacts the fast target acquisition. Probably, it will take time to get used to it, but most likely it's not my thing.

Bottom of the ring is your 5-7 yard zero based on the typical bore offset mounted on an AR. I use it all the time in competition.

There are 65 and 68 moa rings. Both can be used for range estimation of a typical person. If the person is full diameter of the ring, 100 yards. If the person is dot to the ring, 200 yards.

I learned a few things about these reticles from this post. I don't have an Eotech but my buddy does and I've played around with it. I like it and he swears by it. I believe he's used it for hunting deer. That 1 MOA dot in the center is really nice for taking long shots. It covers only about 1/3 the area of a 2 MOA dot (approx). Plus, on Eotechs overall, that wide "TV screen" view is pretty nice.

Holosun 507c is on my carry optic firearms and I run with the circle-dot reticle.

As HK Dave alluded to, I use the 2moa dot for detailed range work and the circle for faster alignment inside 15 yds.

I have several red dots, including Eotech, Aimpoint PRO, MRO, etc and I like it, especially for "CQB" (because I've never actually used it for combat) use. I think it aids in judging mechanical offset, a point of reference.

If you are ok trying a prism sight, I really like the swampfox blade. Fantastic cab optic.
