Lets talk 3x magnifiers

Im trying to decide on an optic for this AR I would like to have as a range toy but maybe pull double duty as a HD or SHTF gun. This gun plain runs and runs really well.

Im thinking about doing a dot with a magnifier. What am I getting into here? Do any of you who use this set up and just wish you would have went with a 1-4x scope?

Is it cumbersome having the dot and having to work the magnifier?

For your intended use...

As long as you have QD mounts that enable you to switch out optics it wont matter if you buy a good scope for range use and RD for defense. Nobody says you have to have a combo unit. Spend for good QD mounts tho.

*I run ACOG's on all my AR's except my coyote rifle and my beater. (ta11 & ta33's good eye relief) Beater has a Aimpoint M4 on board.

Buy another AR and run BOTH setups.

I run a Leupold Mark 6, 1-6x with an offset RDS and I also have an EoTech with a Samson magnifier.

I tend to use my Eotech equipped rifle more often than my LVPO setup. Both have their uses.

If I had to choose only one it'd be the RDS with a Magnifier. The LVPO is still a nice setup but the Eotech is easier to use on closer targets in my experience.

The answer is:

Buy another AR and run BOTH setups.

I agree, I like having both.
