I was thinking of getting a night vision scope for funzies. I would use this scope at night out of state for shooting steel. It doesn't have to be legal to mount it in Calif as I wouldn't use it in state. Anything like that for a couple hundred bucks? Or are the Calif legal versions the best way to go? Don't need any imperial entanglements.

Anything less than Gen.2+, is a toy, FYI. I got something SIMILAR to this, some 12 years ago, (for just under a thousand at THAT time). It's heavy and cumbersome, but it WORKS.

One thing I've lived by is "friends don't let friends buy ATN" night vision is still expensive and I'm willing to bet that prices haven't come down that much over the years due to the Gov restrictions on it.
Personally, I went with a PVS-14 and Dbal from TNVC, I love it but after playing around with a white phosphorous coated GNVG-18, I wish that I had gone the white phosphorous route as I like the image better.
Granted, going that route you have to use it in conjunction with a red dot if mounting it to your rifle or buy an IR laser and get a helmet or skull crusher and the rhino mount.

Impressive! Never seen a NVS, shaped like a lifted F-350 before!

Nothing really worth a damn for a couple of hundred. A gen2 PVS4 can be found for 600-900 and was just recently used in the sandbox but has since been retired. A huge lens picks up a lot of light and its a bit heavy. Can DI AR's run dirty?
