I need a scope for my dad.

I know this isn't exactly the place for this, but the WTB section does not get too much traffic.

I took my dad shooting a few months ago and he had a good time.

Just the other day he said he wanted to go again. My parents are not gun enthusiasts, but my dad was in the army and he's starting to get it.

The problem is he's got bad eyes. He had a hard time focusing on the sights and the target.

I think a nice scope would be just the thing for him.

So I'm looking for a classy scope to put on the Marlin 60 he will be shooting (1" tube preferred).

I really want something like a Nikon Prostaff 2-7x. Something with good glass and magnification that's a bit overkill for 100 yards. 50 yard parallax would be ideal but I don't think 100 yard parallax would be too bad, he won't be hunting with it, just punching paper.

Since I have good eyes, I have no idea what makes a good scope for a person with bad eyes, I would guess a large focus range and decent eye relief.

I've heard people say that you should spend as much on your optics as your rifle and I'm going to give that a shot. I paid $50 for the rifle, with tax, buyers premium and splitting a DROS it came out to about $80.00 total. I'm going to get a nice Gamo 1 piece mount that will clamp the receiver with four screws for $20.00, I've got $60.00 left to get a nice classy scope.

Please help me out with your quality low end scope. Hopefully I won't have to hide my Black Rifle Disease from my family much longer.

It's not easy to find decent magnified optics in that price range.

Not quite in your budget, but the Mueller APV gets good reviews from the .22 world, though many Mueller scopes (and many inexpensive scopes in general) have pretty tight eye relief.

The Prostaff is a decent, if not great, scope, and should do the job just fine. If you could bump up to a Buckmaster, they're a solid step above the Prostaff.

You might want to consider a red dot as well. Regular scopes still have eyesight/glasses issues, where you need to adjust them for the focus of the person using them and whether they'll be wearing their glasses or not, but red dots avoid any adjustments or tweaks.

If he's got astigmatism, that can be a problem with red dots. It may take trying out a few different setups to find what works well for him.

Hard to get a good scope for $60.

I've got a Bushnell Trophy 3x9 that runs $120 at my local shop; found it new on EBay for $80. I like it so far, and I've got quite a few rounds downrange with it on my rifle. You could also consider a fixed magnification scope which would allow you get quality at a lower price than a variable. A 4X on a lever action would work well. Other than that, I've been told to stay away from Simons or Tasco, though I have no personal experience with either.

I'm not too sure about the Mueller APV but the eye relief on my 4-16x tactical is a good ~3.5in and doesn't shift much when going through the magnification range. Overall it is a good quality scope for the price and definitely a candidate for you to consider, hopefully this holds true for their entire product line.

Check out the listing under Tasco on this site, they have a 3x9 that will focus to 15 yards for $40.There are some BSA scopes listed that are under $60.

Checkout Bushnell. I have a Marlin 60 with a older Bushnell Banner 3-9x32 on it. I've had it for over 20 years and it's great.

Wal-Mart has some Bushnells at sub $70 pricing. Decent scopes fro cheap dough.
