From what I have seen, the XTR II scopes are simply better in pretty much every measurable category than comparable PST scopes. Clarity, brightness, turret tracking, zero stop, adjustment range, overall build quality, and pretty much every other aspect except overall weight. The XTR II scopes are kind of tank-ish with their 34mm tubes.
Old generation or new generation PST's??
There is quite a bit difference between the 2

I have 2 of these. One on a 308 and one on a 6.5c. Both do just fine to 1K.
It's not the fall that kills you, it's the sudden stop at the bottom.

The first gen PST scopes. I haven't had any time behind the Gen II PST scopes to compare them. I'd assume the pendulum has swung the opposite direction and that Vortex is now building the Gen II line to compete against the XTR II scopes. I did notice that the Gen II PST scopes are all significantly heavier than their Gen I counterparts though.

Sightron SIII LR or FFP / Athlon Ares or Cronus (Cronus 4-27x56 was on sale at Cabela's for less than $800 prior to Black Friday). The Viper line (HS LR/HST/PST) is probably the most overrated scope in the optics industry. It's a $400-tier scope with a GREAT warranty. *Flame suit: ON*

              Steiner 5x25 military.

Vortex is wayyyy over rated for price and quality. It’s poor mans glass that’s cheap but makes you think you bought quality

Taper, you have a sub $900 recommendation? Have you looked through a vortex gen II yet?

                  Why not an SWFA scope?
