Edit: IIRC the Burris was discontinued and impossible to find about a year ago, when I was looking for a 1x prism sight.

You are correct, even on SWFA, the detail says it is discontinued. They only have TWO left. Did not notice it was discontinued before.

Not everything is about the newest fad or newest technology, and OP is specifically asking about red dots, scopes (1-4,1-6,1-8) reticle, and glass quality are irrelevant. Hell, I know a lot of dudes that are still running Aimpoint Comp M2's, some of those optics are at least 10-15 years old and still going strong. I have a few Comp M2's and ML2's, and even though they are older, I'm not rushing to replace them all with Pro's or T2's. Everything breaks, and Murphy's law applies, but I still believe in the buy once cry once approach.

And who's to say a less expensive red dot isn't still going to be working 10-15 years later? I have a cheap Tasco red dot that's still chugging along after 30 years of hunting and being smashed on rocks and used in the rain. I have a cheap Bushnell TRS-25 that has over 10 years of service on my competition AR and too many to count classes. It's been through mud, rain, wind, dust, snow, rocks, trees, and who knows what else. It's been dropped too many times to count. Just because it's less expensive doesn't mean it isn't going to last.

And why do you consider stuff made by Burris, Vortex, and Bushnell to be unworthy? All are proven performers made by good companies. Yes, I have Aimpoint T-1's, EoTech's, and ACOG's also, but I have no problem whatsover with less expensive optics with proven performance. I have yet to have one of the less expensive optics fail to perform over the years. I've actually been shocked to find out how well they've performed.

That's true. I have 50mm BSA and a 30mm Tasco that still work. Controls and adjustments are still mushy, dots still are not bright enough, but they do still work last I checked. They are in a box somewhere. I'd probably have used the Tasco on some BB gun but the rubberized coating has turned to sticky sludge.

Because those less expensive brand names are not tacicool enough for keyboard operators; and military and law enforcement don't use the less expensive options.

I'd rather buy a Vortex or PA red dot for a range gun and buy 1k rounds of range ammo to actually shoot

Oh yeah... that's the other little detail about the Vortex SPARC AR besides the cheap mount. It is not proven.

The old BSA I had did prove to go off randomly if the battery was in a bad mood or the wind was blowing.

Not intended for any one in particular member in here... but let's be honest. I'd be willing to bet that 75% of this forum collects items as such that collect more spider webs than ammo down range...
