One of the key features of a SCAR is that it is light in weight. You do not wanted to defeat the purpose by mounting a full size scope that weighs more than 30oz. Plus, you don't need that much scope if you are only going to 800. I'd keep it light and get a variable zoom if you plan to go 0-800.

My thoughts exactly. I went with a Burris mtac 1-4 that I had laying around and I'll hit steel 100-600 yards pretty quickly. I thought about upgrading it before but I didn't need to.

The SCAR can be shot to 800 or more. But that is not a particularly useful distance for the 17 IMHO. You probably won't do much shooting past 400, but you never know.

I think the 32mm version of the NF NXS 2.5-10X weighs about 17-18oz (IIRC) and the 42mm bumps up to around 21oz?? Anyway, the 42mm is a better scope but I'm happy with my 32mm and it is lighter and a few hundred cheaper.

I'm so weight phobic with my 17s that my other SCAR 17 is only sporting a T2. I keep an Aimpoint 3X magnifier on a LaRue mount in a pouch, just in case.

Also, try not to add a bunch of crap to the SCAR. Avoid the extended rails and stuff that adds weight unless you absolutely have to have it. If you need a light get a Surfire M600 with a tape switch to avoid adding rail, etc.

One of the biggest coolness factors of the SCAR 17 is its weight, don't throw that away.

Do get a Geissele Super SCAR trigger when budget allows.
Which reticle is optimal on the NXS for the scar 17?

I initially had the Vortex PST Viper MOA 1-4 x 24 which for me wasn't enough magnification bulleseye shooting for sub moa groups within 100-200 yrds. I ended up getting one of your choices Vortex PST FFP MRAD 4-16 x 50 which I am happy with the performance. It weighs 22 oz but I removed my stock irons. My other choice was the Leupold VX6 3-18 x 50 between $1199 - $1299 price point.

I think the Leupold Mark 4 2.5-8x36mm MR/T M2 60180 would be nice, comes in at 16 oz, and optics planet sells for less than a grand.

Currently I run the MK 4 1.5-5 x 20 which I do not love. Weighs 18oz, Illuminated SPR reticle is worthless (lines are to fine for close range and hash marks are 2.5 Mil i.e. to large for LR)

Have not not had much luck shooting mine >500; but have not tried since I found the TAP 155g it shoots sub MOA

I'd get the Viper PST 4-16 FFP and a good mount/rings, which is what I did for my MWS, but in the 6-24x. As of now, I have not caught myself complaining about having too much magnification.
