It is actually not a bad scope for the 999.00 I wouldnt pay 1500-2000. But would save you 500 for ammo.

175gr is a little outside the optimal weight for the 16" 1/10 twist. Most people are getting excellent results with 168gr.

If 175gr works for you, rock on.

Plain old FGMM 168gr works fine and I get the same result with American Eagle 168gr OTM. Many people report great results with Hornady 168gr AMAX as well.

My rifles don't shoot 147gr very well but thats mostly because M80 spec ammo is cheap plinker ammo and not well made. I buy piles of it for fun, but I never expect great results with it.

Hello SkyScraper,

When you start kitting up the SCAR 17S - it gets very heavy, very quickly.
I put on a KDG extension, a Bipod, light and then the Leupold Mark 8 scope - it quickly made the rifle very heavy. Much heavier than my slick/bare SCAR 17S. That's the downside. However, the SCARS is able to achieve sub MOA with the right ammo. Mine will shoot Black Hills 175g at subMOA. Mine hates the 147gr ammo that I have tried (namely the ZQ1- Turkish ammo).

The good thing about optics is that you can change it. I put on a precision high magnification scope on my SCAR - test fired it for accuracy capability before plunking down some serious dollars on a serious scope. You should consider doing that before investing in a nice scope.

No, its a great rifle, reliable and accurate. It just seems that it is optimized for 168gr. It will shoot 175gr. Let's put it this way, I've never once been disappointed in the performance and reliability of the SCAR 17.

I have Mk4 4.5-14x for sale . Thats what i have on my Scar17. Or you can use the 3-10x MK4. Mk4 is good scope, clear and heavy duty. Or you can try Swfa, they build in Japan and heavy( literaly) duty.

I've also been looking for a scope. Seen a few reviews on the Primary arms platinum 1-8 and people seem to really like it. Anyone have any personal experience with this scope?

When I buy a Scar17 one day Ill either put a USO 1-8x or a Nightforce 2.5-10.

For that price and magnification that you're looking for, I'd suggest the Nightforce SHV F1 4-14. For a little less magnification there's good options from Vortex and Burris as well.
