Home defense - flashlight/laser?

Hi everyone.
I am still a newbie. I have a revolver for home defense. I realized ... G-d forbid if there is a home invasion it is likely to be at night and ... it is dark at night. So I thought I should have a light. Question for the veterans out there ... do you prefer flashlight? Weapon mounted or handheld? Full size for Harries technique or small for surefire? I would think flashlight and not laser because you can't actually see the room with a laser. Finally ... what brands/models do you recommend?

Many will say separate flashlight because otherwise you draw a bead on the "bad guy" BEFORE you've identified him. However, good gun-mounted lights have wide lighting so I can easily identify targets without pointing the light (and gun) at them.

I prefer having a separate light and laser so they can be operated independently from each other. I like Crimson Trace grips combined with either a Streamlight TLR-1 or Surefire XC1.

On a budget, a Streamlight TLR-4 is a good choice.

For HD stay with either SureFire or Streamlight LED light laser combo.

tlr6 with laser/light on my shield, its my EDC and sits on my nightstand while i sleep.

Surefire X400 with green or red laser. Have both on my TRP full rail and MC operator. Yes it's pricey but hey "got to pay to play" lol.

Run a Streamlight Tlr-2 light laser combo with green laser. Perfect setup for a HD weapon in my opinion.

Every "weapon mounted or handheld light?" thread eventually goes the same way - people default to their respective opinions, i.e. - a weapon mounted light will get you killed! Or, don't sweep the room with a loaded gun! Leaving you with one option.

The answer is both; weapon mounted AND hand-held. There is no law that says you have to turn on a weapon mounted light. And no law says you can't also have a hand-held light. That's why I have both; a weapon mounted and hand-held next to my pistol. It allows you to carry both and make a real-time decision which to use and when.

As far as branding, SureFire, Streamlight or any American made name brand high quality tactical light. At night a reliable light is a must. Know who/what you're shooting at!
