Yeah running a TA11H-G on 16 inch AR. After years of thinking ACOG's were not for me, I understand why people love them now.

Spent years trying to pigeonhole them into being just as fast as a T1 up close, but the correct question was what is around 90-95% as fast as a T1 up close while giving you the ability to identify things and engage at 200+ yards

I've used a short dot. I was less than impressed.

At 1x, it works just like a red dot: fast and easy to get behind. But you get that with a TR24 for a whole lot less too.

At 4x, its optics suck majorly. Green tint on the image, noticeable optical distortion (barrel). I'm sure it doesn't matter if you're shooting, but I expected more for 3k.

TA31 has short eye relief and is tough to get behind, but great FOV and clarity. I wear glasses and my eyes are not 20/20 correctable but I still do ok with a TA31. If you want longer eye relief, look at the TA33 or a TA11. BAC is easier with the TA33 because the longer eye relief lets you "look around" the scope easier. The large FOV and the fact that it is literally in your face makes BAC tough with TA31.

If you want up close with ACOG, just run an RMR on top. I run an RMR on top of a NF 2.5-10x32, and I get chin weld just fine. In fact, I find it more natural to mount since you have a tendency to pick up your head in CQB anyway. I've ran a number of 2gun matches with that setup, and I rarely need to switch between scope and RMR. In almost every situation, I knew I need to use either scope or RMR when moving to the position.

Don't sweat the BDC. If I leave my scope at the 300m setting and shoot a 100m target, the POI will be 1mil high of POA or 10cm or 4 inches. That makes little to no difference on steel or even the IPSC A zone (6x12). I'm confident you can distinguish the difference between a 300m and 100m target.

Thank you all for the continued feedback. It's very helpful.

Static, I completely agree on the TA44 not necessarily being a huge step up over an Aimpoint!

CavScout, I'll definitely check out the Elcans. I've heard nothing but good things about them.

Penguin, thank you for the detailed feedback. I had not heard about tinting issues on the Short Dot before. I have to say that for the money S&B charges for the scope, I wouldn't want to have any issues with it. Trijicon's warranty is also renowned.

I should add a caveat that I dabble in photography, so I'm hard to please optically. What is acceptable to many is not necessarily acceptable to me. But like you said, S&B is major $ and I just don't think they delivered the right mix of performance/$.

If you want to drop the Gs, look at Kahles 1-5, Vortex 1-6, and Swaro 1-6. TR24 is hard to beat for that kind of money though.

Also, be wary that dual optic will put you in open division. I have "stealth division" locally, so I'm not running up against open div ported SVI Infinitys.

Have you looked at the Khales 16i 1-6 x 24? Truly amazing glass, super wide FOV, and very comfortable eyebox.

Haven't tried a short dot, but I will say I love my ACOG, I wish I could afford to put them on all my ARs.

I even saw a photo one time of a guy who put one on his Benelli M4 just for grins, it sure looked cool but obviously not really meant for that

ETA: Oh yes, here it is!

Settle down, folks. The new "ghost gun" regulations probably don't do what you think they do.

Acog. I used to have an RMR on the top, but ended up taking it off. I now use the vis laser on my DBAL for 25 and in. Works well. Everyone complains about the eye relief, but the TA31 more than makes up for it in field of view.

I'm insanely jealous of the DBAL. That's definitely on my short list.

Haha thanks, its a pretty sweet little device especially under a PVS-14.

This. I'll drop the jing for an ACOG, but no way I'm dropping 3K for a Short Dot.

You can get them at around $2500 if you look hard enough.

I wouldn't spend that kind of money for a 1-4 Short Dot but I most certainly would for one of the 1-8x offerings.

I'd look at the Kahles 1-6 or Minox 1-8 instead personally...

Haven't seen the Minox but love the Kahles. Probably the best 1-6x scope right now, IMO. I also liked what I saw with the Burris 1-8, but that's still vaporware.
