Eotech or Aimpoint RDS w/magnifier combo?

Ignoring price factor.

Been deciding what to put on my scar17 and this is what I narrowed it down to.

The Eotech reticle looks extremely crisp with the magnifier compared to an Aimpoint in my experience and I've shot with both quite a few times.

I still choose to run an Aimpoint Micro H-1 although I do love the eotech reticle. I'd say go with the optic that fits your needs better, reticle, battery life, durability, NV compatibility, waterproofness and all that good stuff. At the end of the day they are both solid optics that run well with magnifiers.

I agree with Deus. I have the 3X and hate it sooo much. Because, a Aim/Eo + 3x combo compromises both close quarters and mid range. I have a SCAR17 and ended up mounting an ACOG. I like the Leupold Mark 4 in 1-6X. But honestly, don't waste your money on the magnifier

On a Scar17 I would go with a variable that has true 1 power (or as close as you can get).

Vortex Razor Gen 2 1-6x (the the PST to Strike Eagle in terms of cost downwards), Leupold as noted above. There are others.

Given you would end up spending $800-1,000 on the RDS with magnifier, I think the glass option is better.

try to see if you can shoot, but minimum handle a gun with red dot + magnifier combo if you haven't. I thought I'd like the setup but just felt heavy and bulky on my AR. for me I ditched the magnifier and was ok with just the eotech then went with a 3-9 scope for my magnified optic.

The Eotech + magnifier combo can't be beat in terms of how crisp it looks. The 1 MOA dot really helps at longer distances.

My Aimpoint T-1 with a magnifier doesn't looks that great IMO. The dot for some reason is shaped like an oval. I saw a youtube video showing this phenomenon so I know it's not my eyes.

I prefer the Eotech design, but I rather use an Aimpoint because the Eotech reticle bugs me at times. I would also opt for the Micro if I were to go Aimpoint.

I hate magnifiers with RDS optics... I never enjoyed the way it looked and felt during use and you loose all the perks of buying a parallax free RDS anyways.

If I need magnification, I just move to a low power variables like 1-4 or 1-6x scopes which has become my preference over the years.

I've ran rds and variable, to be honest I've settled on an ACOG, a little magnification for longer shots but still fast like an RDS because I shoot with both eyes open anyway.

A RDS with a magnifier is viable if you use it with a quick release mount vs a flip to the side due to the weight. For a 1-4 or 1-6 scope and your using this for duty work I'd stay away from anything that does not have locking turrets. Elcans are a true 1x which is the best for CQB then can be switched to 4x on the fly for distance shots. ACOGs are built like tanks but room clearing/close quarter transisiting can make you dizzy. If your looking for durability, weight and price buy the ACOG 4x and learn how to either sight down the side of the barrel or to aim with your support thumb to hit targets from 0 to 50yards. Adding a micro RDS to an ACOG may score you operator points sitting on the bench at the 100 yard line, but adds unnecessary weight IMHO.
