ACOG alternative?

I've had one of these for about three years and it has performed flawlessly. I also have the 2X screw-in magnifier and kill-flash that they make specifically for it...solid gear, great battery life, and it holds zero very well, even after removing and replacing during cleaning.

That looks like a great option. I was looking at one on PAs site. It has terrible reviews, but it may be a different model.

+1 for the PA MD-06.. I like it A lot.. Also picked up a PA MD-SD from another member awhile back for my x39 AR.. Holding up wonderfully..

I probably won't buy another Primary Arms MD-06. Unfortunately, mine is starting to act up, and the dial is a PITA to turn.

I know this is probably still north of your budget, but I bought my ACOG used from eBay for $700. It's beat up, but the tritium is still charged and it works like new, it just shows some "experience". So if an ACOG is what you really want, you don't have to spend $1500.

I was offered one for a very fair price, by a member here. Unfortunately, I'm going to be hit with law school tuition very soon ($150k) so anything over $200 is out of my budget. Oh well, I think I may go with the HD7. It looks promising. That or the PA 30mm Classic. I really like the chevron reticle, so I'm leaning more towards the Lucid.

For anyone who owns the HD7, do you have to re-zero every time you switch reticles? I can see myself accidentally turning the reticle knob while attempting to bump the power - I'm used to the MD-06.

I didn't do any serious testing, but I flipped through the different reticles and each seemed true to the original zero which was done on the dot-in-circle.

Great, thanks a ton. I know the sightmark sights need to be rezeroed when you switch reticles. Glad to hear that's not the case with the HD7. How are you liking yours?

Only thing is, none of the above recommendations have fiber-optic lighting, they are all battery powered. OP mentioned he'd like fiber-optic illumination, which is understandable for sure, that's one of my favorite features of my ACOG.

That's absolutely true. But it just dawned on me that for fiber optic red dots, you really only have two viable options. An ACOG, or a fake ACOG. The latter doesn't seem to get much love, and the former I can't afford. I'll probably go with the HD7. I only wish it had an etched reticle. I just realized that I have $35 off on Amazon, so I could get it for $150 shipped.

For what it's worth, a good friend of mine is now our SWAT sergeant and has been one of our SWAT snipers for years and he recommended the Lucid HD-7 to me. He says it is an outstanding optic for the money and has several on his personal rifles. Buy with confidence.
