    I have two EOTechs - a 512, close to 20 years old.

I also have an EXPS2-2 that I've ben using for maybe three years, I'm not crazy about the lower 1/3 cowitness (I prefer absolute) but I do like that it is shorter than the 512, it helps with limited railspace and a flip-up rear sight and a flip to side magnifier and the EOTech.

I really don't understand the hate for EOTech. Their 65 MOA outer ring gives me some options that I don't get with a single dot.

The 65 MOA ring can be used as a rangefinder 0f sorts – EOTech says that the average adult male is 5’ 9” in height – at 100 yards that adult male will fit the entire 65 MOA ring. At 200 yards, half the ring, at 300 yards one third, at at 400 yards, one quarter of the ring.

As well, it can be used for hunting, the girth of a whitetail is roughly 16-18 inches. At 25 yards, this girth fills the 65MOA ring. At 50 yards, half the ring, and at 100 yards, roughly one quarter.

I personally like the versatility that my XPS 2-2 offers.
The bottom of the 65 MOA reticle is your 7 yard hold over, the center dot is your 50-200, and your bottom dot is your 500 yard hold over.

XPS2-0 is great and lighter / cheaper than the EXP series. I also prefer the absolute co-witness. I think thd versions with the extra dots are useful but may be confusing to a newer shooter.

Your timing is great OP, due to current affairs between Eotech and the .gov, people will be panic dumping them left and right. Good time to buy a used one on the cheap. Ignore the negative press, they are great optics.

Eotechs are great. So are aimpoints. Different optics for different uses, IMO.

Eotech has a better field of view and a flat out better reticle. 65 moa outer ring for close up work and 1 moa dot for distance.....how does it get better? The drawback is that it is not as rugged and has more sensitive internal architecture. Also the battery life is rates in hours, not years. In my opinion, the Eotech is perfect for a range queen rifle, OR for SWAT teams and special forces....for those engagements when you know you are going in and are well prepared.

Aimpoints are for those "set it and forget it" type of deployments. Its going to be on for years and you don't have to worry about turning it on if you're caught by surprise and need it in a flash. It is also a much simpler design (reflective LED vs Holograph tech) and is more robust.

Because I'm not an operator, I chose the Eotech. You can see my review of the EXPS 3.0 here: http://www.firearmreviews.net/eotech-exps3-0/

Take it wth a grain of salt. Really not serious at all. Mostly business as usual with defense contractors. Back on 2004 a few of Eotechs sights had issues with temperatures above 140 degrees in the sandbox of desert Iraq.

All real operators will be unloading them on the cheap. Keep an eye out in the marketplace.

i love my eotechs but a lot of them will come up for sale cheap in the coming months. i would wait and buy used.

typically they have almost no use on them and were safe queens.

micros are nice as well but they are a completely different optic imo. i much prefer the eotech ring than the aimpoint red dot for certain applications.

i have micros on my full size ARs and eotechs on scar, shotgun and pistol ARs.

I have a black 512. Never put it on a rifle or used it. I jumped on the band wagon, chugged some kool-aid while building an AR and now it's wasted space. Send me a PM and it's yours if you wish. Just like NYT said, it was a safe queen stored in original box.

If its going back and forth between an AK and an AR I would get the 512 because it has the lower absolute cowitness. Since AK ergos are different (depending on your stock), the lower height will be beneficial and you can get a more intuitive cheek weld without straining your neck.

AA batteries are a plus, and the 512 is already comparatively affordable.

L3 is buying back all of the EOTech sights at full retail because of the issues with them.

I'll try to get in on that. I have a couple that will go back and aimpoints will take their place.
