Of all the BUIS out there, I prefer the Matech. It's awesome with Aimpoints or EOTechs.

Matech or GG&G MAD BUIS?

What if I am not going to have any optics for a while? Still prefer it as my primary sight vs. the others?Comment

Matech is battle tested as a military sight and also a great choice. There are tons in circulation and often available cheap on the secondary markets. You really can't lose either way.
I would add though that for a "first AR", I would seriously consider a carry handle rear sight and spend some meaningful time shooting with irons only before messing with red dots, cowitnessing, ETC.Comment

I am not planning on any red dot type of sight at this time for the reasons you suggested. I'd like to get comfortable and proficient with the irons first. Plus, I'd like to go with good quality in that component so budget-wise, it is at least 6 months down the road. But, for some reason I don't really like the looks of the carry handle sights. It seems like an outdated look. I prefer the lean lines of the flip up and I assume they are lighter? Plus, when I do get a red dot type of optical, I can use the flipups where with the carry handle I would have to do a replacement...right?Comment

I like simplicity. I still feel the M16A2/M16A4 sight is overly complex for the task.sigpic "On bended knee is no way to be free." - Eddie Vedder, "Guaranteed"

Is there some kind of boycott because of regulations and them supplying government agencies?Comment

A lot of people seem to like the matech. About the only complaint I've read about is the small aperture. I haven't found a front sight by matech. If they don't make one, what is a good iron front to match it up with? ThanksComment

When I finally get around to buying the RCO for my AR, I will also be purchasing the MaTech BUIS.
All the issued M4s that I came across in my service had the A2 front sight post, therefore a back up front sight wasn't necessary. Hence why I don't think MaTech designed any.
Fortunately, my AR also has the A2 front sight also.Comment
