Optics and Astigmatism

I have Astigmatism since very young, when I shoot, I simply wear my glasses. There are also specialized shooting glasses like Decot that comes with prescription, I wear them when using my shotgun or on bright days when shooting my AR that has a Mueller Speed Shot 1-4x red dot.

If you wear your prescription eye glasses, you'll see a clear, nice red dot.

My astigmatism causes the EOTech to look like a very pixelated Pong block, even with glasses. I can differentiate the EXPS3-2 double dots but they're not as crisp as I was hoping. Oh well... old eyes. Good Luck.

I have a bad astigmatism too. I have prescription glasses and I still can't see the dot clearly (better with the prescriptions though compared to not having it on). What I find that helps me see my Aimpoint red dots more clear are the KAC rear sights. For some reason looking through their tiny peephole(aperture size) some how tricks my eye like I am squinting. Causing my eye to see the dot clearly!?

I have a Trijicon RMR on my Glock and I get the fuzzy dot. It still works great, but I just do not get a clean dot.

You may want to try a prism based etched reticle sight. I have a Vortex Spitfire on my AR and the dot and lines are perfectly clear.

Maybe it is just me, but my astigmatism does not affect this prism based red dot sight.

My eyes are mildly jacked up. The dot on my Matchdot II is a 45 degree squiggle from top left to lower right.

I just use the top left part as my aimpoint and it's worked so far. Of course it's on a Model 41 so I'm using a solid platform to begin with.

I too suffer the vision blues. However, my eotech looks great, but the red dots look like starry cigars. I didnt know i had astigmatism until i tried my buddies aimpoint. I then went to get glasses, it helped some but not the best. My dominant eye is worse, so im trying to shoot righty.
I like my bushnell trs25. I have owned darn near every rds on the market and with my eyes, eotech first, then the bush trs25 second. jmho.

This trick works. An astigmatism is because the opening of your eye isn't a perfect circle. Putting that peep sight in front of your eye provides that perfect circle and solves the problem. That said, I prefer 1-6x scopes

OP, I've got an astigmatism as well and wear both glasses and contacts. What helps me out the most is actually my contacts. I wear Biofinity Toric and they're weighted on one side so that they rotate, changing where my eye focuses and eliminating my astigmatism. Might be worth trying out a trial pair.

I also wear the same Biofinity Toric lenses, and they help out tremendously. I have a hard time focusing on the reticle when I wear my glasses, but those contacts work wonders. Granted, my astigmatism isn't very severe, but it might be worth trying!

I have astigmatism which causes the Eotech reticle to look like a flaming hoop. It isn't as noticeable outside in bright sunlight though. The Aimpoint dot looks like the Nike swoosh logo, which isn't as bad so I use Aimpoints on my defensive rifles.

Aimpoint and EOTech optics didn't play well with my astigmatism either. Never tried the vortex or Trijicon options, I tried a leupold prismatic a few years ago and haven't needed to try anything else.

ditto (crappy eyes, astigmatism, etc.). What's worse, I shoot 3gun which means I need my near vision for pistol front sight, and I need my far vision for shotgun and rifle (I run a red dot). I too get a starburst on my red dot, but, a good optometrist (and I mean REALLY good) can get you correction that works. In my case, after much consultation, and measuring distances to my front sight and my rifle optic (yes, I took my pistol slide, and red dot to the optometrist) he worked out a bi-focal, with a high line where my natural head position works for everything. Anytime you are wearing glasses or contacts, you can suffer from some abberation causing the red dot to not be as crisp, but it can be minimized and almost eliminated, trust me, I've been there.
