There are pretty much only two that are on the top of the list; the X300 and the TLR-1. The X300, in my opinion, is the best but it also does cost over twice as much as the TLR-1. Whether or not it is over twice as good is up to you.

The newer 300-lumen TLR-1's can be head for less than $100 if you keep your eyes open.

Either a TLR 1 (just the light) or TLR 2 (light and laser). I have the TLR 2 on my Glock 19...well worth the cash.

          TLR1s is all you need

Have one on my g21 and my g35 right now. Don't see a need to spend twice as much just to pay for Surefires logo.

You are getting more than surefire logo... Surefire lights are made/engineered better and have a surefire lifetime guarantee backing them. Besides, who wants to own a second string copy of the original.

            Oh wait.... apparently Glock owners....

I have a TLR3 (125 lumens). Brighter isn't always better. If you can, try borrowing a flashlight that can switch modes between 100 lumens and 300 lumens. 100 lumens lights up my house in pure darkness very well. 300 lumens takes me time to recover from night blindness - seconds. If you are using a weapon light you don't want it to be on all the time telegraphing your position. You may need to light up an area quick and then turn it off. For me, with my light colored walls, 300 lumens was too bright.

I used the TLR3 in a low light class and I was happy with the output at distances that were greater than any engagement distance I would have in my house. Surefire is a great product, but you pay for it. The streamlights are built well and have stood up to about 1000 rounds on my G21 just fine. I know many LEOs that trust the brand, and they beat on them a lot more than I ever would.

Just consider that brighter may not always be the best option. Your mileage may vary....

Not sure if it would be too bright or not. The TLR 2 that I have is a standard version (300 lumens, half of what the TLR 1 HL emits).
The brighter, the more blinding to the person behind the beam...I believe that is the point with the HL models, since they market them as "flood light" versions.
Can't give you much input on the TLR HL models, but I can tell you that the standard, 300 lumen models are plenty bright.

^^^ This. Too much light in the confined space of a room in a normal home and you will blind yourself as well as the intruder.

I went with the old school x300 by surfire which I think is 170 lumens instead of the new updated x300 ultra which is 500 lumens.

I think that for inside/close up work, 200 lumens is the max effective. Outside, on a rifle/shotgun, 300 to 500 lumens would be awesome.

I have a TLR-3 on my work gun, which i believe is a cheaper version of the TLR-1. I paid $70 for the 3, it's held up for ~ 4 years and 5000 rounds so far.
Buying a safe and sane firework is like paying a hooker for a hug. I do not see the appeal in it.

TLR-3 Good Bang for the Buck

I have the TLR-3 on my G19 and it's plenty bright and compact. It's more than enough for home defense use. Amazon has it at $72 with shipping included.
