Does anyone else hate their dial lock

I am so tempted to drop the 350.00 that it costs to convert my dial lock to electronic. I hate this go 4 times past this number then 3 times past this one that I could scream.

It does suck, however I've been told the electronic units are unreliable.

Easy and possibly unreliable or tediously slow and reliable, thats always the question with gun safe locks. I prefer the dial locks reliability but then I'm not opening my safe several times a day. If I did I might switch to the best electronic lock I could find and change the batteries often. For my needs, I'm happy with the S&G combo lock.

Look up "electromagnetic pulse" and realize why you will love your dial when the SHTF.

I thought about that but you can easily shield for pulse damage, even a simple lead apron they use in hospitals will work.

EASILY shield. You have a lead apron?

Or an EMP warning alarm so you can run over and cover your safe with the lead apron before the lock gets fried?
I think its far fetched to base your lock choice on a possible EMP blast but then you never know.....

Having had a couple discussions with some locksmiths who do a lot of servicing of safes, this electronic lock was recommended as being highly reliable:

But can't beat a good dial lock to last you a lifetime... don't forget even dial locks need servicing now and then.

I simply hang my tin foil hat over the electronic lock whenever I leave the house. Problem solved!

Seriously, if you are really concerned about preparing for an EMP event, there are probably a list of electronic items you may want to protect that goes beyond your safe lock (electronic lock, Ham or SW radio, perhaps an ECM for your car ... ). Has anyone thought about keeping such items in a well sealed metal box?

I actually love my dial lock. Traditional, Reliable, Simple (IMHO).

if you're operating it enough to be bugged by it, by all means convert to electronic; however my work loclers are all dial combos as is one of my bike locks, so to me it's just routine.
(wish they'd all be the same combo, though)

I hated dealing with a dial lock... So I now have an electronic I like being able to get into my safe in less than 15 seconds.... The Electronic will be an inconvenience when it goes bad but for me the dial was an inconvenience every time... Comes down to personal choice...

EMP hmmmm will that harm it? Maybe maybe not it would depend on how far away it was and if it was real close then we might have much bigger problems to worry about...

the reason why I like conventional dials

the reason why I like conventional dial safes, the tritium in the acogs vs battery operated red dots, carbureted vehicles, etc. etc.

I got so tired of mine I gave two safes to my daughters and bought a big one with an electronic lock.

If you use it enough you can spin it and gauge how many times it went around without counting very easily. I can open my safe in about 15 seconds.
