I am thinking about buying the Cannon safe on-line at Costco. My house is a wood foundation built in the seventies. I am nervous about placing it in the house because 500+ pounds not widely dispersed seems a bit much. I f I located it on a exterior wall, maybe centered right over a floor joist do you think it would be ok? And if not, I could place it in the garage except I live above the snow line. Would a rod inside the safe be enough for moisture? And lastly, our power lines are above ground and every winter during a good snow storm our power surges, and sometimes go out all together. Would I have to put a surge protector on the interior electrical box in the safe that powers the moisture rod?

You're fine on the wooden floor.
Think about it... adult male is 180-250lbs, size 10 foot.
That's up to 250lbs spread over less than 60 square inches.... 4-5psi
The safe is 500-1000lbs, spread over least 575 square inches.... 0.9-1.8psi
The highest loading you'll place on your floor is when wheeling it in on the dolly (maybe 8 square inches).- Rich

Another option- reinforce the floor from underneath. Put some adjustable screw jacks, like what you use under a mobile home under the floor joists. and place some paver stones or pier blocks under that to provide a solid footing. This will absolutely prevent the floor from sagging under the weight of your safe full 'o hardware!Comment

Thats a great explanation on the weight distribution that I never would have realized. Your absolutley right, at most maybe lay down some ply-wood for the hand-truck since they didnt use tounge-n-groove flooring, just 5/8 plywood. I think I can place it in the house now without loosing any sleep over any structural damage. Thank you very much. You're fine on the wooden floor.

I got my 465 pounder up stairs in a house thats 11 years old. It sits next to my reloading bench and I have thousands of cast bullets under that. Its been like that for about 4 years now and I check the floor for warpage once a year. None found. My floor has those wood "I Beams" and are about 1 foot tall. My wife always says that all my stuff will fall through the floor and land on my truck in the garage. I dont think so!! I think you will be alright....Cowboy Action Shooter

I use both a goldenrod and an EvaDry! Rod raises the interior temp of the safe, and the EvaDry picks up moisture for extra good measure. Plus CLP slathered on everything...

Would be nice to be able to plug in my zip code and find out what shipping would be without having to provide my personal details. Before buying your safe check out The Safe Place. They are in NV so you get away without sales tax.
Tax on a $500-$1000 safe is going to be $50-$100... I can't imagine they're going to truck a safe out from Sparks for less than $50, and it'll cost me a lot more than that to go pick it up.- Rich
