Turnover is like half the price IIRC... not as much retention.

Is there a reason you want a chest rig rather than a carrier?
A carrier and plates are a little out of my budget for now.

They should be set up high on you chest, hence the name, not around your belly or waist. Double mag pouches do stick out more that singles, but I can go prone no problem. Is is better then without a chest rig? Of course, but the other option of putting 3-8 mags on the sides and rear on a war belt make sitting down or being in vehicles a whole lot harder. Pick your poison.

      Q?
How the hell do you shoot prone wearing one that has all the mags stacked over your belly? Seems that if you have to go to ground in a hurry you'd gut punch yourself.

*no. I have no 4 mos preggo looking belly and prone is my preferred long range shooting method. I'm no longer high speed, but I am low drag.

I added the haley strategic micro mag inserts to it because I prefer the Kydex retention. They fit it perfect but there's nothing wrong with the ones it comes with, you can remove the bungess too if you don't want them there.

How did you get the kydex inserts to fit? i just got the same inserts but havent been able to find a solution for securely mounting them in the pouches.

There are some molle covered carriers out there that are under $100

I have a nice LBT that was maybe $80 - yeah, I realize that doesn't include plates or pouches... but you might put a carrier together with no plates or even IIIA/IIIA+ plates and upgrade later. I actually like a IIIA+ rigid carrier if total weight with carrier and two plates is 5 pounds - what else is that light? My Level IV plates are over 5.5 pound each plate.

LBT was only a example, I think that was a sale that's over. There are other options.

I'm looking for something similar and would be called a "Chest Rig" but completely different.

I would be pistol (and maybe mags and flashlight) and probably just over one shoulder and snapped to belt like Sam Brown belt.

Idea is doing Armed Security while 95% of times sitting in car with standard belt holster is hard on the car seats, and the driver, and awkward to hop in and out (don't know how cops do it, but I've noticed fewer and fewer cops in the 5'11" and over range, and they are all Medium to Slender, so I guess that helps).

Car based Armed Security can involve hopping in and out of car often, and having a Chest Rig would let people see you are armed without them getting too close, and Chest Rig seems like much better way to deploy a pistol from than belt holster while seated in a car, and less muzzle sweeping while drawing/holstering etc.

Ideally should be VERY easy to put on or off, while standing OR seated, so like I said probably one strap over one shoulder and fast and simple way to connect with belt or maybe pants belt loop on one side. Should be able to take on and off using only one hand while driving or using phone/cam with the other.

I would be OK if the strap is kinda wide or widens out in the middle to support and stabilized the holster AND include flexible body armor minimalist coverage.

The got these CCW 'sling bags' which I guess count as "on your person" for legal CCW or whatever, but I'm wanting someone more secured in place from shoulder to belt, and "fully exposed" and more Duty Belt fashioned.https://www.amazon.com/WATERFLY-Ligh...1&sr=1-19&th=1

I have seen guys wearing the harness too low and it never made sense to me.

My poison includes a duty belt, Arktis k170 lbv and level 2 soft vest.
I can drive/ride in vehicles, shoot in field positions in reasonable comfort. It also passes a battle rattle test. Not going prone was a deal breaker, so...

                OP Tac has these too:

The M4 RSCR was designed to be a lightweight, minimalist system for carrying just the essentials. The rig features space for 3 M4, AR15 type magazines with adjustable retention in our unique reverse flap pouches. Across the front is a shock cord web intended for carrying items like a tourniquet…

$150 is pretty good if they are decently comfortable.

They also have Slickters in stock.

Check out ALL their chest rigs:

It is not like CONDOR stuff doesn't work either. That condor chest rig works. Yeah, stitching might be a little wonky but it will keep mags on your body.

They have some decent looking carriers, but they are not the most comfortable things. If I was trying one, I would try that Vanquish with a couple VAS modular panels to setup different ways/different calibers. I think the carrier is like $60 and the panels are $15.

have you used it or just installed and thought they don't fit? the velcro doesn't grab all that much on them which is what I'm assuming you're referring to but when you put mags in they're secure. I've used this setup for several trainings and have had no problems with them coming out or anything.

Sounds like you need more of a "tactical vest". They usually have room for a holster, pouches for mags, pepper spray, flashlight, etc. There's a wide variety of this type of thing on the market. You'll be surfing for a week.

As a side not, nothing to do with this comment but others in this thread, I am looking at chest rigs or similar due to me being a skinnier guy (noazzatall). I have a back injury that has destroyed the muscles in my right leg and buttock so I don't have much working for me to keep a loaded belt up, if that makes any sense.

I use suspenders for my work pants so I'm not always having to pull them up. I prefer using back packs for most things but when it comes to the idea of having to use a rifle or pistol and having to do mag changes, a backpack isn't going to cut it.

Put together a battle belt with suspenders. Easy to pop the buckle and swing open if you really want to shoot prone unencumbered.

Look at the pic I posted. The vest has keepers for the belt that might serve as suspenders and distribute the weight of the belt over your shoulders a little.

Yeah a backpack wouldn't cut it unless it was really flat and maybe had a tear back cover so mag carriers weren't exposed in backpack mode... and you transitioned it to the front (wear it backwards). People do that all the time with packs that have a armor plate in them (improvised/covert) plate carrier for front protection.

There might be some kind of single strap shoulder bag that's comfortable worn behind that can transition to the front side... like a Maxpedition type setup... I dunno though, I guess that's why there are purpose-built chest rigs.

As far as your suspenders setup goes... I really think you would find a rig (plate carrier) like a Slickster super secure. You have primary support of the adjustable internal velcro shoulder straps and the included "Carry Elastic Cummerbund (CEC) that can accommodate 5.56 and 7.62 magazines, smoke, flashbang, radio, tourniquet and others (4 cells on each side). Adjustable with hook and loop front and rear"... the cummerbund really grips your body also while remaining comfortable depending on how tight you adjust it when you wrap it on.

The Slickster™ is designed as a concealable plate carrier for Law Enforcement and Military professionals. Used by special forces and leo around the world.
