For 200 years the infantry of any national army was about 1/2 pike men, 1/2 musketeers (the age of pike and shot).
1000 man army = 500 shooters + 500 pike men.
With a bayonet on the musket , then 1000 men = 1000 shooters and 1000 pike men.
