There might be a city law against it, but I can't remember reading a state or federal law banning them. There was a federal assault weapons law in 1994 that banned bayonet lugs, but that law sent away.

I remember SKS rifles had their bayonets removed to comply with the law during that time, but they still kept their bayonet mounts.

Pump shotguns and bolt action guns could still have bayonet mounts.

        Criteria of an assault weapon

Under the Assault Weapons Ban of 1994 the definition of "semiautomatic assault weapon" included specific semi-automatic firearm models by name, and other semi-automatic firearms that possessed two or more from a set certain features:

Semi-automatic rifles able to accept detachable magazines and two or more of the following:

        Folding or telescoping stock
        Pistol grip
        Bayonet mount
Flash suppressor, or threaded barrel designed to accommodate one
        Grenade launcher mount
Be sure to ask your doctor if depression, rectal bleeding, and suicide are right for you.

In the United States a person's expertise on a subject is inversely proportional to their knowledge of the subject: The less they know about something, the more they become an expert on it.

Maybe his "I wouldn't do it" statement was based on the fact that if you ever had to use it in self-defense / home protection it might not play out so well with the court, judge and jury.

Or maybe he's thinking that having a bayonet attached will throw off his rounds point of impact (but I think that only happens a little bit and at some distance).

Maybe it was a style thing: just because it's legal doesn't mean it's smart.

Well, I'm not a mall ninja so, I wouldn't mount one either but, it is not illegal to do so. I would find a new gun store and stop going to one that gives bad legal advise. Sorry but a minimum wage sales clerk probably doesn't have a law degree and should not be spreading FUD.

Liberals soiled their pant with feces when they hear or see a bayonet on a rifle.

Not illegal but bayonet won't fit on a 16" barrel. The bayo lug is too far back. They will fit on a 14.5" pinned barrel and a 20" barrel.

True, Ive seen an adapter for the 16" barrel. Im not really serious about getting a bayonet, but maybe its a good idea for HD since we can only have 10 rounders in this state.

With the adapter, it might wobble. Additionally, it looks ridicules on the 16"

A bayonet will fit just fine on my A-2 govt with the birdcage flashhider... Unfortunately with the Harris muzzle brake on it,,, the bayo will not fit over it... The bayo is still a nice knife that has many uses,,, and the Harris just may be transferred to a 16 inch barreled flattop...
I would like to find a linear brake that a bayo would fit over,,, but not likely....
                              Cheers,,
