I would prefer to skip meals or get a second job twirling signs on the corner rather than sell off any heirlooms. Money crunches happen to everyone but once those heirlooms are gone they are gone.

Yeah, you won't. It would be more like 25% - 30%. And you would hear the chuckle chuckle snort snort high five behind you as you exit.

If you pawn them you will loose them or most of them just because of the way the system works. You would be better off keeping the most sentimental ones and selling to rest. You will end up with the same amount of money without all the angst and heartache that will come when your pawn tickets are due and you don't have the money to get them all back. Even worse is you won't have enough money to buy extensions on all of them.

Hoping pawning them will allow you to get them back is the false hope that makes pawn shops so lucrative.

In my travels with work, I go to a lot of gun shops. I walked into a place in Daytona, the guy behind the counter is cleaning a Marlin Texan 30-30. I asked how much, he said $275, I talked down to $275 out the door with a box of ammo. I got a great deal, but I couldn't help feeling sorry for the poor sap that probably sold a $400 gun for $100-150.
Never initiate force against another. That should be the underlying principle of your life. But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.

That's just best case scenario. Like tops. Generally it's not even that much.

But I've gotten $500 for a series 80 before. But yes, you're right. Wouldn't count on it.

                I second this.

You've probably made your decision already OP, but do consider picking up a side/weekend job first. You can never get back a pawned gun.

Do not sell (hock) your items to a pawnbroker - do not sell to a gunshop.
They have employees, permits, store rental and bills to pay.

As has been said here, sell one or two of the less sentimental firearms for what they're worth vis the classifieds and then look for a better less heart breaking way to gather money.

If you have to pawn them.
Go to American Jewelry and Loan in Costa Mesa. Talk to owners, Ken or Don. They know C&Rs well. And they will give you more than most pawn shops.
I have purchased many toys from them over the last 30 years. And I trust these men implicitly.
Pm me if you want more info. If needed. I might be able to show up and help you.
