Damn you FedEx! **UPDATE Post #56 Claim paid by FedEx**

    Uhhhg!!!

Had an M1898 Krag arrive at my FFL today.

My FFL called me to tell me the rifle had arrived and upon opening the shipping box, the stock was completely broken in half at the wrist. My heart just sank when he told me this. I head down to the shop to see for myself. Sure enough, I see the ugly sight. I'm just totally disheartened at the damages FedEx caused on this piece of history, not to mention I had been saving for a Krag for a while now. Unfortunately this ole' gal had to suffer the destruction. For 115 years this rifle had endured the elements of time and war, and then through the careless hands of FedEx, it's done.

This one was made in 1899 with a 1903 acceptance stamp.
The stock WAS beautiful on this one.....until today.

The seller fortunately had the rifle insured, now we have to file a claim / inspection and HOPE FedEx makes good on it.

Has anyone ever had to deal with this situation?
    Any input?

I hope you all have a strong stomach to look at the carnage...Mine is still churning.

you should consider yourself done. get your money back, all of it, and move on. the seller has the insurance contract with fedex. it's his problem.

Disgusting, sorry to see it OP., but easy to believe. I got a package with TIRE tracks across it! Just a book inside, but, really?

Now your challenge to get decent reimbursement and then try to locate another stock. Idiots....

So how was it packaged? Far, far too many people don't know how to wrap things up and package to really protect. They think wrapping a layer or two of bubble wrap around something and tossing it in a box will do the trick. I'd never send something like a rifle in nothing less than a double box with some wood plank reinforcements to resist bending/crushing. I'm betting that the seller just wrapped in in a layer of bubble wrap and tossed it in a regular cardboard box. That's a recipe for disaster.

Bummer that it happened and at least the seller is going to make good. Hopefully you'll find an even nicer one and when you do, you might give serious consideration to providing your own shipping container. Ship it to the seller and give him instructions on how to pack it up. Maybe even just get a Pelican case for shipping.

True. I've never had to deal with a situation like this before with FedEx so I wasn't sure yet who files the claim, or both.. I just got home and started typing through my tears.

The seller seems cool enough and responded to my email right away.
At least it's sitting at my FFL's so I don't have to keep looking at it.

            Now the wait begins.

Yeah depending on the outcome, if I'm stuck with it or not.
After chatting with my FFL, he hopped on the phone and called a friend of his who deals in C&R and antiques about helping me look for a correct stock.

Yup, I have had FedEx beat the snot out of some of my packages when they arrived and so I don't use them.

On the other hand, UPS takes decent care of my packages. Ironically, the only broken gun I have received, was from UPS, but was due to the sellers bad packaging, which included a broken wrist and a gun barrel sticking out from a hole in the box. The look on the UPS guys face told me that he was glad to be wearing brown shorts.

Most problems are not from the delivery service, though they do occur. A good packaging will prevent most issues.

A piece of history should be packaged to survive a bombing.

Yeah, it was in bubble wrap and wads of paper in a single cardboard box.
My FFL said it was packed in there TIGHT. But still you're right, that's not gonna be much protection. Of course the seller said this is the first rifle he's ever sold that has ever been received broken. A roll of the dice I guess.

Good idea about sending a reinforced shipping box. I'll keep that in mind.

Yup. I'm actually more bummed out because of the history that was destroyed here, rather than the money. Money you can always make, the history is what is so fragile and treasured.

Other than the rifle being packaged in a not so-great way, they need to find that FedEx worker that probably is still tossing around packages and fire him! Sorry to hear and see this OP.

Ouch, that is painful and sickening to look at. I'm hoping Fed Ex won't pull their shenanigans about how it was packed incorrecly and refuse to pay the claim. Hopefully you'll Find another Krag in similar condition or perhaps a replacement stock.

You notice Allans Armoey only ships his riflws in hard plastic rifle cases,- charges yo 10/15$ for the bix as he says too many rifle s get screwed up in shipping.
