    steyr m95

My father past and left behind a Steyr m95. Im not sure about the ammo but I have one now in working condition. I think the ammo is 8mm or 8x56r. I will be doing my research on it now. I want to shoot it.
I am not moved by my emotions or by what seems popular. I will do what is right.

    Good info here:
The Steyr M95 - CGN compiled knowledge.

Is a long rifle or a carbine?

The long guns are prob 8X50r
The carbine guns are (in most cases) 8X56r

        Here's some info:

Also - check out youtube, iraqveteran888 (as well as others) some great video's

i found the carbine kinda meh, personally.

the long rifle, though, is a thing of elegance and beauty.

personally i think of ww1 long rifles as their own class; they're "modern" guns with modern cartridges, aesthetics and sights, but theyre the last of their kind; after them everyone moved on to more practical carbines and semi-auto battle rifles.

At one point i had a long rifle of each of the great powers of ww1 and the steyr is by far the thinnest and most elegant, it also seems lighter weight.

curiously, the Austro-hungarians were the only great power to not have some ridiculously long and impractical yet totally cool as hell huge bayonet; that's my only complaint about it.

its also neat to see how Steyr did a straight pull in a much simpler and cheaper to manufacture way than the swiss did with their Schmidt Rubins.

The carbine is so handy, M1 carbine with a BIG bullet. Amazing how such a small rifle could fire a large caliber round.
