    9x18 Mak Triumvirate

Was playing around with my phone and shot some images of my three 9x18 Makarov pistols. I think I will need a FEG PA63 eventually. What else do I need to round out this group?

Very similar to the p64 is the pa63. But the SMC 918 is a slightly smaller version of the pa63 and are harder to find in California. None of these models are technically makarovs anyway, but are great addition to any makarov collection.

+1 on the P83. The pa63 has recoil like the p64. It isn't that fun to shoot.

Don't forget there are many variations of the actual makarovs.

I've seen lots of people calling communist-era military pistols from Hungary, Romania Poland or Czechoslovakia by the name "Makarov". That is inaccurate. Huns, Poles, Czechs and Romanians had their own designs but because they were part of the Warsaw Pact they were required to use the same caliber round like anyone else in the alliance.
Only one pistol in your pictures is a Makarov. The other two just shoot a round called 9X18 mm Makarov and have very little else in common with the Makarov design other than the caliber and the simple blowback system.
So calling the three pistols "Makarov" it's like you would say you have three Luger pistols, but in fact only one is a Luger and the other two are Glock shooting the 9 X19 Luger round.

Speaking of Maks, I used to collect them. I had a EG, a Russian, a Chicom and a Bulgie. Couple of years ago I downsized my firearms collection and kept only the Bulgie with the walnut grips I made:

Very accurate little bugger and very soft shooting. I was thinking to use it as a carry piece but is quite heavy.
The floating firing pin is another issue. Once I went to the range, shot a couple of boxes of ammo, came home and left it uncleaned in the gun safe. I usually clean all my guns after shooting them but for some reason I forgot about this one. About two years later I sent the revolver I keep in the nightstand as a home defense gun back to Ruger for an upgrade so I thought to replace it with the Mak. I took it out from the safe, loaded a full mag and racked the slide. BANG! I crapped my pants, thank God I pointed the gun towards the floor. I took it apart and found the firing pin stuck forward because the firing pin channel was full of gunk from the Brown Bear ammo I shot two years before.
Lesson learned: clean the gun after each shooting range trip and make sure you can hear the firing pin rattle inside when you shake the slide.

I have a PA-63. Let me know if you make it down to LA and want to shoot it.

Great trio. Now I want the P64 and FEG PA63 too.

How do you like the PA63?
It's a neat little pistol but shooting it is literally a pain in the hand.

Capy - You need more colors!

OP posted "9x19 Mak" - To me he is referring to the caliber -

He's asking what other guns in "9x18 Makarov" should he get -

He didn't ask which "Makarov" to get -

Stechkin APS! jk... we could all wish.

BTW I think most of us understand that these aren't all Makarov pistols and like Saigon1965 said OP/we are talking about the cartridge they share.
