    1945 BSA No.4 Mk.1 T - range report added

    Hello everyone,
I had some time today to pickup my newest addition, this No.4 Mk1T. My first C&R+COE cash and carry purchase.

    My notes:
Rifle- All serial numbers matching that I can see. I haven't checked the butt stock serial number, it has a cardboard/fiber washer obscuring the large screw. I am trying to figure out a non destructive way to get it out. I tried a dental hook, no luck.

    M47C on all small parts.

Scope and mount- mismatched to the rifle, but correct Mk.3 scope. Crystal clear optics and turrets function as they should.

All the stamps are there for a T rifle, minus the actual T. D6E stamped on left side of receiver next to bolt and on left hand butt socket, S stamped on receiver flat under bolt head (very difficult to see, can only see the bottom half of the S as the rest is covered with paint), TR on butt socket, S51 on bottom of butt stock.

No evidence of a T stamp.

The scope mounting pads are staked, and the finish is quite uniform.

Milled rear battle sight for scope clearance, and slight notch cut in fore end wood to clear bottom scope screw.

The end of the barrel is stamped "303 18.5 tons"

What are your thoughts as to the lack of the T stamp? Did the assembly worker possibly forget it, possibly covered in paint or is this a very convincing clone?

I can't wait to get it to the range! It will be coming with me to the January WEGC shoot to have a shootout with its rival, the PU.

Here are the pictures, please excuse my lack of photography skills.

    Nice.

I got a looong screwdriver from auto zone to get the washer and screw out. They all have it I think. My guess is to keep the cleaning kit from knocking on the screw inside?

I've got the screw driver, I'm just trying to get that fiber disc out in one piece. If I can't, I'm sure my curiously for verifying the serial number will outweigh saving that little disc.

Steven, take a trip down to that store we talked about when you get a chance. I was there today and they had 2 No1's, 2 No4's and a No5.

Congrats, I can't wait to see it at the next shoot in January.

To get the washer out, use a metal coat hanger with the tip bent up. You will be able to hook the washer and remove it.

Leave it be unless butt stock is loose or the stock need replacement.

                  Good luck.

Post it over on Lee Enfield section on Milsurps.com and you will get the answers your looking for. I'm with mj on the buttstock.

I'm leaving the rifle alone, I am very pleased with the way it shoots and don't want to disturb it.

Here is how it did at the range (desert) with 174gr PPU FMJ at 100 yards. It took around 30 rounds to zero, and after that it was very fun to shoot.

I'm sure it'll reliably shoot sub MOA once I get used to it and possibly better ammo.

Thanks! I am more than happy with it. I'll bring a bunch of 303 to the January shoot, and see if I can get it under an inch.

100 yards? Your zero will be a problem at other ranges.
