I admit my weakness as a C&R guy is sometimes I like "pretty" more than I like "correct". Sometimes you can get lucky and have both, but it is frustrating to have a love for old firearms and yet expect them to be flawless and original.
Neither of these Mausers are high end collectibles, but I bought both of them purely because they were nice looking and affordable. I was taking some pictures for my records so I thought I'd share them with the gang.
1) Yugo M48A. Go ahead and bring the hate because this is a "MMC" import marked rifle and we all know what that stands for. In any case, it was the prettiest M48 I could find, which frees me up to shoot my other M48 and keep this one as a SQ for future use. It is unfired and the action is gooey with cosmolene.
2) Czech rework K98. Much more palatable to the collector in me and also in absolute mint condition. The crest was scrubbed but all of the other chickens are still there. The stock is probably a post war replacement but I can't say for sure. It has the "last ditch" type takedown hole and there is no cleaning rod hole (although the bayonet lug has the hole, so the lug and stock are mismatched). It came with a cleaning rod but there is nowhere to put it!! All the other parts are stamped including the barrel bands, floorplate, and winter trigger guard.
The bore and internals are mint. For reasons unknown to me it is not import marked. The receiver and bolt are matching, and even though these were commonly scrubbed and renumbered, the fonts look like they might have been original numbers. All the other parts are unnumbered. Just a cool oddball K98 and it will definitely be a shooter.
