Nice looking rifle and a great gift for your son.
I just have one question. What is an SRS hit?

SRS is the springfield research service.

I too built from a receiver, 6 digit SA, cost effective? Heck no, fun as all get out learning about the rifle and it's history as you build it? Can't be matched! Congrats on a great rifle, I'm sure it'll stay in the family and your son will cherish it for many years to come!

And I second ammogarand, got a lot of parts from them!

Wow you got the grooved rear handguard. Pricey part for what it is. That is also a very curvy lower band. The grooved one would have been nice but they're pricey also.

I want some grooved parts even if they wouldn't be correct. They just look cooler lol.

Looks great, OP! Glad to read that you're giving it to your son, my first M1 was from my Grandfather's collection that my Uncle gave to me after Grandpa passed; that Garand hooked me for life, I got it when I was 19, well over 30-years ago and many, many more Garands collected/bought/sold since that first one.

I've built several correct M1's from receivers, though they will never be originals, they are fun to build and put back into service. I'm currently restoring a 6-million SA Garand, I just found/bought the correct post war Y01 bolt for it on Saturday, that hunt took 6 months to find one with the right finish; the last 2 things I need are a April-May 1956 barrel and a good post war stock set.

I built my Garand from a Northridge Inc parts kit and a Springfield receiver. I think back then I could have got a field grade for the price I built it for. Congrats OP.

The benefit of a Garand is that you can have a part from an early issue that works perfectly well in a late build. One can build a Gas Trap Repro or just use a now field grade as it came out of rebuild & got beat up over time and neglect. They still, with reasonable consideration, will go Blam and Ping. :-) My 'mutt' has a '56 receiver & parts from early to late to commercial. But is it mine, so it is the best of them all. :-) But I sure do appreciate the time and effort folks have dedicated to preserve a unique example of "the greatest battle implement ever devised". Thank you, J. C. Garand. During ROTC, 1961, our drill team banged, slapped, and flipped our fully functional M1's to the citywide championship. (There was a range in our high school!) What was just loaned then, its' sibling now resides within easy reach. All is well. :-)

Can you explain the SRS hit? I'd like to try my Garands SN

There are folks who have the books. There are a gazillion serial numbers...researchers have collected these numbers and consolidated them. If you are lucky enough to have a number that's been researched, it usually contains very little to no info. Just a brief glimpse into the past. There's a lengthy thread on the CMP boards with people looking for info on their rifles.
