Perhaps a C&R reloading subforum?

Was talking with another C&R buddy, and we were discussing a subforum for reloading

Now I know there's already a reloading section, but I really don't want to wade through pages of .223 and .45 and .308 and etc

Let's face it, as the days go by, milsurp ammo gets more and more expensive and I seem to see more and more C&R people getting into reloading (especially with the oddball/ harder to find ammo)

There could also perhaps be threads dedicated to certain calibers to make searching easier as well as buying/ trading/ heads up on brass or other components (eh, other components could be found in the other section...)

Any interest to pursue this farther or just a "deal with it"?

I consistently see "I shoot XX mm ammo, how should I reload?" Replied to by "I reload to *common caliber* specs"

However, there is a huge liability issue that could arise. I think a knowledge base of x brand powder works with x brand bullets in x brand gun would be a useful addition.

Believe it or not, the reloading section is replete with lots of knowledge on C&R firearms and cartridges. It is also highly unlikely that the moderators will create a sub forum that is so specific. We barely got a SHTF sub forum(ok a "prepping" and survival forum) after a year or more of petitioning.

If you really want a better resource for C&R reloading, we should be petitioning for a better search function. It is impossible to search of anything with any specificity with only 1 word and no boolean operators. The google search sucks as well, but not quite so bad.

This is true, but at the same time, I think we'd get some useful knowledge of the less common calibers

Yes, I guess the purpose would be more oddball stuff as you CAN find 30-06, 8mm, and prob even .303 Brit in the normal section

Hmm... I'll have to peruse that section more. I usually just look for brass to stock up on to trade later :P

The reloading section does have a lot of good posts for our old warhorses and many of the same members who post in this section post there as well. It really would be a duplication of efforts.

I do agree that searching leaves a lot to be desired. Many irrelevant treads come up even though they have nothing to do with your search criteria. Your best bet is a good reloading manual(s). I have the Lyman's 49th, Hornady 9th, and Lee's 2nd addition. You would be amazed at the variety of calibers that are covered in the manuals and if they don't list the cartridge you're looking for, just start a thread about it and the knowledgeable guys will jump in and help.

The reloading section gets plenty of action, mostly full of a lot of smack-talking about who's brand is better and how much somebody spent on their kit. I've pretty much stopped going in there because it takes forever to sift through the BS and find a thread worth reading.

Worst case, we could sticky a topic here in the c&r forum and people could add to it. We've done similar things on gunboards to great effect. That forum has a breakdown for each country or type of gun, which I don't expect to get into that level of detail here, but just a sticky where we c&r reloaders could compare notes is a fine idea. A sub-forum would be ideal so different calibers, etc could be split up but I understand the hassle in arranging that so I'd settle for a sticky. Vote yes on prop c&r reloading sticky!

Look what happens now in the "Collector's Exchange": People list stuff in there, only after they've listed it in the "Private Party Sales" forums. Sometimes, they don't even bother posting the description; they just cut and paste the link for the Private Party listing. It's an afterthought...

If you segment the reloading forum, it would be the same result. People would just post the same topic twice.

There is a lot of great C&R reloading information here at Calguns.

The problem is that it tends to get buried in other posts.

Agreed, but I think the idea was to put this in the C&R section, which is where it would likely get more notice. Hell, we've already got the gallery and the exchange, what's one more?

Or, like I said before, just make a sticky for it. Only downside to that is if it gets to be several pages and you're looking for info on a specific cartridge, you'd probably be boned, or a least very frustrated. Yes, I think a subforum would be idea. so a thread could be started for separate things. If we were to start this just as a thread in the c&r forum it'd get buried in the matter of a week.

Ideas? Suggestions? I don't have the perfect answer but I'd like to see others get on board with this idea. If it's a matter of money, I'm broke as a joke but would kick in something if that would help. I'm sure others here would also be glad to contribute. What say the rest of you?
