    C&R and COE worth it?

If I will only buy 2 C&R eligible long guns, should I apply my own C&R and COE, or just simply go through the regular FFL route, pay the transfer fee and CA tax?

C&R and COE initial cost is more than $100.

Cost for 2 guns through FFL is about $80 + $50 tax (if two guns cost $500).

So the saving is not significant.... C&R application takes months....

    Any advice? Thanks.

Who are you buying from? Some will be confused about California laws and may not send them to you anyway.

After you add the fee for self-registering the guns ($19) you will pretty much break even. But you might decide to buy more. And even if you don't, you can still tell people you have an FFL and can get guns through the mail.

If you are only EVER buying 2 C&R guns then it's not worth it. If you are a collector and do not have a cordial relationship and close proximity to an 01 FFL then it's worth it to get an 03 FFL.

Collecting tends to be addictive. Even though you think you will only buy 2 it often happens that you find something you just have to have. Also, once you build a trusted relationship with a vendor the pieces start to pile up.

Having a C&R is a good way to deplete your bank account. I don't even have a COE and its still costing me money. I just get everything sent to Reno now.

If you get your COE & 03, you will naturally start looking around for deals. There are on-line dealers you can trust. If you shop around, you will get deals that will make good shooters. You may get a few guns that are good financial investments. You will probably get the MNs,K-31s and Mausers and SKS that we typically get, then you can always branch out. At times you will make impulse buys. Months may go by when you by nothing at all.

There are good experts on Enfields and Garands and everything else here on this forum. Most of them have very good advice.... for free.

If you choose wisely, you will not lose money. You will spend more money over all because you have your COE & 03. You will buy ammo to feed your new aquisitions.

Most of all, you will come back to this forum to read and learn...because it is fun. There is always somebody aquiring something unusual and willing to spend the time to write about it and take pics. Yes, it it worth it to get the COE & 03.

As others have said, it kinda depends on if these are going to be the ONLY 2 rifles you buy. I've never gotten an 03/coe because I don't feel it's worth it in California. I was fortunate to start my collecting before everything went full retard here so I cash&carried most of my rifles from shows or calgunners. The fact that you now have to "self-register" really turns me off, although it is neat that you can mail order anything now that's on the federal c&r list. At this point I think it's a matter of preference. If/when I move out of California, I will surely be getting my 03, but not while I'm here. I've still bought guns, but not nearly as often as I used to. Flip of a coin really.

Where are you? Do you ever get to Nevada? If so, you can get the 03, skip the COE and have your stuff shipped to a friendly dealer in NV, and it will be cheaper.

Transfer fee from a NV dealer plus reg fees will most likely be less than the cost of the transfer in CA. (Timber Outdoors in Reno charges $20 for up to 5 guns).

Plus, you can order pistols, something you can not do in CA even with a 03 and COE.

If you're actutally gonna buy *only* 2 C&R rifles, I wouldn't bother getting the permits. Don't waste your time....if you can manage not to get infected with garanditis or mosinitis, then good for you. If you travel out of the PRK frequently, then a C&R can be good to bring things hoe with you.

As others have said, if you plan on only buying two rifles not worth the COE and C&R. Remember that there is an annual renewal fee for your COE.

Those *only* two rifles will multiply if you get the C&R & COE....there should be an AA for C&R holders.

I just recently got a C&R (03) license and it took about 3 weeks, not months.

then go home and pay to have it registered? Doesn't make $ense..unless you are admitting to breaking the law....which also woudl not be logical.

How many posts of been written in the last 12 months about this?.. many many

And in MY opinion...hell no cr is worth it anymore in Kalifornia. You pay the jackboot thugs even more money to infringe on a civil right. Teh get possibly harassed when you "self register".

Many here don't care or just say.."its only one more small thing", or "you are playing into their hands of not buying guns". Well I am not paying them one more dollar. Go play sheeple supporter if you want- I'm tired of this constant attack and I am not a "diehard" collector. I have my fill and will spend my money helping to support lawsuits.

Down with CADOJ......no money for them , maybe the cant pay the bills and the lights get turned off. I know for sure it wont be my $15 they use to pay some lackey to harass one of you C&R buyers.
