That really sucks!
The meeting went well. While I agree with Ronin about the NRA memberships, I also can see why some people would not want to be associated with them. I wish there was a way the club and those who don't want to be associated with the NRA could both be happy. I was kind of on the fence about the steel ammo issue and I wanted to see what actually happened at the meeting, as not everyone is the same in person as on the internet.
After going to the meeting, I have more respect for all of those involved. I have not seen any solid evidence that states that steel jacketed ammo is X percentage more likely to cause fires. Just about any ammo could cause a problem under perfect conditions. If I wasn't reloading all of my centerfire rifle and pistol ammo, I would want to buy inexpensive ammo as well. On the other hand, it would be terrible for the range to suffer a fire or and legal repercussions that may result from a fire.
I do hope the board will find a way to allow the use steel jacketed ammo without leaving us open to legal trouble. Compromises suck, but I hope at worst case WEGC shooters will be able to use their steel ammo under conditions similar to what Ronin has listed. When the area is green and the fire danger low, I hope there would be no restrictions. There is no way to guess what will happen with the decision.
It sounds like I have missed out on some cool guns and good BS sessions with the C&R shoot. I enjoyed the one time I did make it out to it, so if you are on the fence about joining in the C&R shoot, go for it.
I was a little surprised that the board was open to hearing a limited member speak. I am glad they got to voice their opinion. There were less people at the meeting than I expected. Many of the people at the meeting were board members. I was one of the few who were there just as club members (full member). Ronin made a statement about a small group doing most of the work for the club, and he is right. We can seem to get only a percentage of the club to vote and few show up to meetings. It has been a while since I attended a meeting, but they have always been well worth my time. The board and club seem very open to hearing what has to be said, and details such as club financials are right there for the members to see/hear.
