If you shoot Milsurp at WEGC, please read me ASAP

Ok, so by now, most if not all of us are aware that we are no longer permitted to shoot steel-core/steel-jacket milsurp at WEGC thanks to the efforts of a certain Calguns member here that raised the issue with WEGC Board of Directors and has gotten it prohibited. If you weren't, now you are.

Here's the thing: I was invited to speak to the BoD regarding this issue, and this is an invitation that I intend to accept to argue on our behalf. (Also in regards to forcing NRA membership for limited members, but that is a more personal issue for myself.) I am not claiming, nor am I going to claim, that I speak for Calguns.net on this issue unless Librarian says that I can, this is strictly for the C&R shooters as individuals.

Since my statement to them is going to directly effect Calguns C&R shooters, and is a direct result of this ammo ban that hits us direct, I feel that the Calgunners that go shooting at WEGC deserve the option to put forth your vote on if you want to have me represent us. I don't want to represent you if you don't want me to, even in an unofficial capacity, so please let me know by voting in the poll if you do not wish me to. I will tally the results Monday at midnight and choose my course of action at that time.

Since I would be going to represent us shooters and speak for you, I offer the opportunity for you to add your own statement to what I plan to deliver to the WEGC BoD unedited and word-for-word. If you do vote "Yes" and want to include that statement, PLEASE ONLY PM ME your statement. Will need it by Monday midnight as well so I can include it. Rest assured I will be doing my best to get this overturned so that we all can continue to enjoy shooting at the wonderful facility that WEGC has provided for us. I have made many friends at these shoots and I do not care or wish to see that fade away.

While I normally do not shoot steel core anyways since I reload for my guns and pick non-magnetic bullets, it definitely is a hindrance now that WEGC views magnetic ammunition as prohibited. I will be hoping for positive results, and even if we do not convince the board, at least we tried. I very much enjoy WEGC's facility and environment, and I understand their apprehension for the supposed risk that magnetic ammo provides, though I think some of the potential danger is overblown and is a manageable risk by range staff. I appreciate your efforts.

My opinion will pretty much mirror everyone elses against the ban of milsurp / steel jacketed ammunition.

I just want to thank you for your time and efforts representing our views at the bod meeting.

If non-mag ammo isn't overturned, then I'll just put my money into a tank of gas and go to the desert. They won't see my money

It's sad to see a ban on anything relating to firearms, Period.

Good on you Sir for steeping up...

I spoke too soon. (and I apologize)

            1) All the board members I spoke with, including the president, thought that the existing posted restrictions precluded the use of surplus steel core and steel jacketed ammunition. They felt that that was the "intent" of the restriction as originally crafted. They were unaware that steel core and steel jacketed ammo was not covered under the existing restrictions.

            2) Based on the the fact that the posted restrictions do NOT specifically restrict "non armor piercing" steel core and steel jacketed projectiles, THE CURRENT STATUS QUO IS IN PLACE, ie... that members MAY shoot steel core/jacketed projectiles in a safe manner at the club pending a board discussion of the issue and decision at the next monthly meeting this coming Tuesday.

            3) While I and several members of the club strongly feel the risks to the club outweigh the benefits of allowing this ammunition, the President feels that the discussion needs to be had so that all members can voice their concerns and and a vote taken before any additional clarification on the clubs ammunition restrictions are made and publicized. The President wants to make sure that member and board input is taken into account on the issue and that any decision does not appear to be arbitrary in nature.

            4) Any "full members" with an interest in the issue should plan on attending the WEGC monthly meeting to voice their opinions.

            5) So.... everything I was led to believe after speaking to two board members, well ah.... NEVER MIND!

            6) The Mosin shooters can shoot the non-AP ammo as planned and I apologize for the inconvenience my postings may have caused.

Well you are not being quite accurate... unless you have an invitation from someone else...

              1) I invited you to attend as my "guest observer" at the monthly meeting.
              2) I told you that I did not know if a limited member would be allowed to speak or not.
              3) If you were not allowed to speak, that I would let you witness me reading a brief comment on your behalf.

NO WHERE IS AN INVITATION TO SPEAK TO THE BOARD. I as you can tell by my original offer, do not have the authority to extend an invitation like that.

              4) Any steel surplus shooters who are full members SHOULD attend the meeting as the issue will be discussed by the board.
              5) The NRA membership requirement has already been decided and my invitation to YOU was with regard to the ammunition issue only. If you attend as my guest you must address ONLY the ammo issue either by direct statement to the board or in a statement I read for you. Your invitation is rescinded unless you commit, on your honor, to address only the ammo issue.

I'm not a full member or anything close so it's probably not my place to say...
that although I believe in safety and not taking risks that could possibly do harm in anyway, to any range I also agree with Armistice stated above that the people will just go elsewhere and probably not return.

also the thought occurs to me that with continuing and ever widening government restrictions that the days of unlimited inexpensive surplus ammo are almost definitely numbered.

                just my 2 cents.

I did misunderstand the original invitation. In light of the corrections by Ronin, I still do plan on attending, and will revise my statement to remove any issue over the required NRA membership for limited members.

Only downside to shooting elsewhere is that the good places are getting further away...I'm not exactly close to west end, burro is distance-wise much closer, but takes the same amount of time to get to, and I hear people there are dicks. Seems like everywhere I turn there are more reasons to move far away from here...

Being able to shoot surplus magnetic ammo was the only reason I joined as a limited member at WEGC. The only other option would be Raahauges. I seriously need to find a good spot somewhere else if this goes in effect.

                        WTF?

It never ceases to amaze me how we can be our own worst enemies. To think a fellow Calgunner would pull some nimby, hating, underhanded limiting BS like this is almost unbelievable!

If some azzhat tried doing this for my local range I'd be livid!

Hope you guys/gals get this garbage overturned and are allowed to use your surplus.

Exactly. I have been wanting to check WEGC out and become a member for a while. If I can't shoot my spam can ammo though I won't bother.

If there are any C&R Calgunners that are Full members at WEGC and support what I'm doing, please PM me, I need to speak with someone that will be at the meeting on Tuesday.
