I'll try to bring out the Enfield, trapdoor, and maybe a couple Frenchie guns to shoot (and an AR or two for testing).
The 7.5 is my first attempt at French handloads using a light 308 recipe (since ammo is non existent right now), we'll see how it works out.

    Wooooo!!

It'll be good to see you again, it's been...almost a year now?

    See you Sunday!

BTW: We were shooting brass cased, copper-jacketed, lead core 5.56.
How many other people were there, and do you know what types of ammo they might have been shooting?

but I always try to bring a shovel even when I am only going to be at the Main Range.
I think that got changed over though to requiring all Limited members. At least the sign at the entrance says all members are required to have one.

I'm only going by the posted rules on the website. I don't see any shovel requirements for the main range, but that can be out-of-date.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

One of the problems is that if there is fire in the main range 100 yrs plus away, by the time there is a ceasefire and all weapons made safe so that members can "run" down range with shovels and fire extinguishers to try and put out a fire... If there is any wind at all, it may already be

            1) out of control
            2) spreading to National Forrest or possibly what as of this week is National Monument property and all that entails.
            3) depending on win direction, spreading down the canyon to cut off easy escape
            4) if out of control, may very well mean the end of WEGC with a loss of insurance, untold fire suppression costs and damages in excess of the policy limits.
            5) should there ever be a fire that gets out of hand I would want EVERYONE to get the hell out of the range/canyon and back across Lytle creek. NOTHING is worth the safety of all our members.

There is a Rod and Gun club in Nothern California suffering this exact fate according Lee Smith, the environmental attorney I spoke with at Michel and Assoc. earlier this week in a meeting on another fire related matter for my WW2 re-enacting club.

I just don't think it is worth the risk to lose the only member owned and secure from encroachment / development outdoor range in all of Southern California. Having to stand in court and somehow defend allowing steel projectiles should a fire start seems to be undefendable.

There are too many forces that would like to see the end of all shooting ranges in the state... And I don't want to give them any leverage to that end if it can be avoided.

I hope everyone enjoys their shoot and stays safe. The matter will be put to rest one way or another in the very near future and any full members with an opinion should attend the monthly meeting as I have said before.

            Cheers!

I still bring one anyways, just in case.

We were the only two shooters in Bay 06 (one of the back bays only available to full members). We had the bay all day and fired several hundred rounds without incident.

The fire broke out towards the end of the day, right after we had shot a 10 round string.

ETA: Again, we were shooting copper jacketed, lead core ammo. If someone takes the position that steel core/jacketed ammo is a fire problem, then you also need to acknowledge and take the position that lead core is a fire problem, too. So, maybe we need to ban lead core ammo as well? That's absurd, of course.

The problem is not that steel core is more of a fire risk than lead core -- my and my shooting buddies experiences show the opposite! I've NEVER started a fire with many 1,000's of rounds of steel -- the problem is that ANY shooting activity is a fire risk.

I'll guarantee you this: If a fire is started on WEGC property by the shooting activities of one of its members or guests, and that fire gets away from the club and into NF or NM territory, the gov't and the civil/criminal jury won't give a rat's a** if the bullet was lead core or steel core...our club will most likely simply cease to exist.

Since it doesn't matter whether or not the bullet was steel, why ban their use?

                IMHO, YMMV, etc.

You will never, in your life, have a chance like this again.
If I were you, I would not pass this up. I would not let this go by...this is rare.

See you there! It'll be nice to catch up- this will be my first outdoor shoot since my son Carl was born
My truck is loaded, so 99% going now, barring some sort of catastrophe. I'm leaving before the family wakes up, so it should go nicely

I ended up with another Chinese Mauser which has been fired by the previous owner, and has a different banner than my others- but no ammo I want to fire yet. I'm thinking handloads with slightly oversized bullets would work well in this one.

                  -Dave

PS- I'll bring my high speed camera in case anyone wants video of an action cycling or a hand getting beat up on recoil. Resolution isn't great, but it's good enough

I'm bringing my Ljungmann AG42b and Armistice is bringing his SVT-40. Those would both be cool to see cycle in slo-mo. Is that Chinese mauser chambered in 8x57, or something weird? Anyhow, be cool to see some different guns out there. I love my mosins but once I see a few I just get kinda bored with them. Either way, I'm shooting tomorrow so it's pretty much impossible to have a bad time.

Any other semiauto I should bring for the highspeed camera? My new SKS likes to eject brass straight up into the ceiling

I'll bring my SVT and M1 Carbine. Could bring my MAS 49/56 and SKS...

Had a great time. I'm going to get a target like you, Syntax. They always seem to hold up the best

My SKS worked great. My first one shoots horrible with a barn side of MOA. This 2nd one I got shot 3' high center, so adjusted the post, and with aiming at the bottom 1/3rd of a 2' plate I was able to work my way to a 10/10 hits @ 100yds. Super happy about that. I was able to get some 8/10s and 3x 9/10 in a row, lol

SVT's mag was acting up and was getting some FTF issues. Feels a little gritty so prob needs some cleaning. Due to that, I really wasn't able to get a good amount of sight picture time, but think my best was 5/10

M1 Carb did fine. Shoots high right about a foot maybe. Aim at bottom left and could get hits. I think my best was 5/9 (I use a 30rnd mag, and need to adjust the block I put inside to get all 10rnds to fit)

MAS 49/56 loves to fling brass. I was 4 benches over from Knucklehead and my brass was in front of him, haha. Sight pic is a tad odd, but with some practice, I'm sure I could do better. I only put 20rnds through it. Best was 7/10 I think

Got to shoot Knuckle's LJungman. It's actually a nice soft hitter. I think I got 2/4 hits with it

Was nice shooting all semi autos for once. I can go longer since my shoulder can put up with it

                              STEEL CORE

most of my ammo is surplus steel core and it is one [ not all ] reason i am a limited member of WEGC. It will be a financial hardship for me to not be able to shoot this ammo. I do not shoot on BLM so most of my ammo would collect dust.

Still shot surplus today John, that BS is still in limbo, the meeting is apparently Tuesday and Johnwin is going to appeal our case. Since certain full member have decided to go all California on things it'll probably get pushed through. We'll see what happens but if they ban surplus ammo I imagine their memberships might be compromised a bit, or hopefully more than a bit, just to drive the point home. It was a pretty good day out there, with no drama. Got my buddy indoctrinated, he just got a 91/30 and wanted to shoot it. Now he's hooked. He joined WEGC as a limited member and we went through a ton of mosin food. Brian picked up on his need for C&R addiction immediately and got him to shoot his 1903 and Garand as well so we have a new addict! He wants a fairly low-cost semi-auto and I wish I'd brought an SKS for him to get some trigger time on but there's always next month. Finally shot an SVT-40 thanks to armistice, boy that's a violent bastard! I've gotta have one! Syntax, that FN-49 might be the sexiest, but most pleasant thing I've ever shot, she's an absolute pleasure. I wish all the semi-autos weren't so damned expensive, but that's a hurdle i'll have to jump bit by bit. Any way you slice it, we had fun, although the friggin' sandstorm was a bit strange. I'll be blowing dirt out of my nose for a day or two. All in all, A++++++!!!
