i have herd hoppes formula does not work on corrosive ammo. you might get lucky and put enough of it down the barrel to remove the salt. they might still sell a black powder formula that does address salts ?.

When I'm finished, spray windex from the chamber down until black gunk is coming out of the muzzle and steaming off. A few patches and spray the bolt down. At home, clean as normal.Comment

I shot corrosive ammo.. didn't clean for months. No rust......
Still working that one out.
#9 works on corrosive salts. Though the old formula did better. I have a bottle hidden away of the OE formula... BTW it included WHALE OIL in it. I keep it for repelling greeny freaks. Look whale oil! hahaaha....but their exists also in the human heart a depraved taste for equality, which impels the weak to attempt to lower the powerful to their own level, and reduces men to prefer equality in slavery to inequality with freedom.Comment

Simple green while barrel is still hot at the range. At home, I boresnake some oil and call it doneMarch 29- April 5, 2019- The Million Mag March. Thank you, Judge Benitez and all the vendors

Everyone has their own remedy. I tried the Windex route once. After shooting, I sprayed down the bore with Windex and thoroughly dried it but was unable to finish cleaning and oiling fully that same day. I went back the next to finish up but found a light coat of rust. Never tried it again.
I've always used Hoppe's #9 and will continue to use it. Other than that once instance, I have never had any rust issues with any of my rifles. Even up here in MN where humidity is a real problem, my Mosins never have the slightest rust buildup after cleaning with Hoppe's 9 and oiling with a good CLP.Comment

I don't disagree with Trapp much, but will on this point.
Using Hoppes no 9 to clean after firing corrosive ammo comes up fairly often, and one of the previous times this came up, a guy here on Calguns ended up calling Hoppes to get the straight answer. Which was: "No"
The old formula worked fine, the current formula, not so much.
This is backed up by the excellent test Surplusrifle.com did a while back, testing various cleaners on removing salt from test strips of steel. Unfortunately, Surplusrifle.com is gone again, and since the domain appears to be for sale, probably for good this time.
Hoppes No9 plus is formulated for Black powder, and should work fine on corrosive primers.

I used to use windex at the range, decided it was too much hassle. Now I use hot water, a turkey baster and a bayonet. Takes about 45 seconds per rifle.
First use hot water. Then use WD40 to get rid of the water. Then a shot of CLP or the oil of your choice to protect it. That is all you need to do to remove the corrosive salts.
On edit: Looks like the Wayback machine has an archive of the bore cleaner test article:

Yeah, I found that out too. The look of horror on peoples faces when I tell them I shook Korean corrosive in my M1. I see nothing wrong in my bore or gas system. I detail clean it about every 3rd time out. All the Korean stuff if gone now so it's all reloads.I shot corrosive ammo.. didn't clean for months. No rust......
Still working that one out.

I have a big bottle of Ballistol. On that, they have a formula for cleaning out corrosive ammo. 90% water, 10% Ballistol. I haven't tried it, but seeing as how I just refinished my stock using shellac and can't use Windex (ammonia dissolves shellac) to clean it, I might give this stuff a try and see how it works.Originally posted by DRHI think Claire Wolf said it best as "America is at that awkward stage. Have you looked around?

Guys, Guys, GUYS! Guys? Guys.
Just use this. It smells great. Cleans great. Use it on your bayonets and blades too.

I take a small squirt bottle with some Hoppes #9 Black Powder Solvent with me to the range. When I am done shooting, while Mosin is still sitting on bench I wrap a patch around a bronze wire brush, soak patch and swab out bore. Remove bolt from receiver, squirt bolt and chamber and wipe down around muzzle area. This happens before rifle goes back in case. Simple...
