What Scope Should I use?

I might just get an NcStar, but I do have plans to use this rifle for some huniting and want a scope that will last for a while. Has any one ever put a red dot sight on a 91/30

If you are going to take a weekend you have off and drive up to the Sierras or some place close to you the NCStar will be fine.

If you are going to use scheduled vacation, and sign up for a guided hunting trip far away that costs you a lot of money then ditch the NCStar and spend the appropriate amount of money on a quality scope.

I have had two of these break on me, one on a scout mount on my Mosin M44, and one on my soft recoil AR. It lasted maybe a thousand rounds and more than a dozen trips to the range on my AR. The other lasted maybe 30 rounds and two trips to the range on my M44.

I do have a third NCStar on another AR that has maybe 2K rounds and to numerous to count trips to the range and I have no plan to change because it has the cool look factor (for conversation piece) and variable 3 x 9 Power magnification, illuminated rectile (5 settings each red and green) and 500 yard bullet drop compensator that works good enough for sub 2 MOA accuracy with 55 grain and is still going and very appealing to me to use as an AR scope.

NCStar are attractive due to the price but they are cheap.

One day fire you gun at the range and have a lens pop out and roll about on the ground in front of you you and you will understand.

BUY CHEAP, EXPECT CHEAP, accept that and you are good to go!

I was going to suggest to keep it as original as possible. It really depents on what type of condition it's in though...

There are millions of nagants, so if you "sporterize" one, it really won't be a travisty...

Why not go "tactical"?
